My current practice looks at portraiture, exploring what is required, in terms of facial features, for pieces of work to be deemed a portrait. By classing each feature of the face as a single section; such as eyes, nose, mouth and hairline. Drawing each of these sections on clear sheets of acetate, it allows the option of looking at the piece with various sections present or absent. By using a method that means the layers can be separated allows you the viewer to determine your own opinions as to how much you feel is required for this series of work to be classed as portraiture.

From this work I have been able to explore my own definition of what I class a portrait to be and I have made the following work in response to my exploration of this.

Mae fy ymarfer presennol yn edrych ar bortreadaeth, gan archwilio’r hyn sydd ei angen o ran nodweddion y wyneb er mwyn i ddarnau o waith gael eu hystyried yn bortread. Drwy gategoreiddio pob elfen o’r wyneb yn rhan unigol; megis y llygaid, y trwyn, y geg a llinell y gwallt. Gan dynnu llun pob un o’r rhannau hyn ar asetynnau clir, bydd yn rhoi’r dewis i edrych ar y darn â gwahanol rannau yn bresennol neu’n absennol. Drwy ddefnyddio dull a fydd yn golygu y gellir gwahanu’r haenau oddi wrth ei gilydd a fydd yn eich galluogi chi, y gwyliwr, i bennu eich barn eich hunan o ran faint fydd ei angen i’r gyfres hon o waith gael ei chategoreiddio yn bortreadaeth.

O’r gwaith yma rwyf wedi cael archwilio fy niffiniad i fy hun o’r hyn rwy’n ei ystyried yw portread ac rwyf wedi gwneud y gwaith canlynol mewn ymateb i’r ymchwiliad a wnes i hyn.

I have recently been exploring ideas related to the home and memory, and how they form identity. I am interested in how to defy the imperative to follow a linear structure in personal narrative and instead look for a more honest depiction of memory, which is itself...
