BA (Hons) Interior Design

As an exhibition designer, I have a commitment to thoroughly researching the subject matter of my schemes and focusing on the deeper, subliminal message conveyed to the audience through the physical narrative of the space. I utilise my schemes to bring attention to societal issues and forgotten historical contexts, in order to provide solutions and encourage wider societal change.

The layout of my designs are a deliberate effort to envelop and immerse the space, in order to draw the attention of the viewer into understanding the significance of the issue at hand and furthermore, provide education into how they can play their part in changing societal attitude.

Additionally, I am infatuated with showing personality and character within an interior scheme and ‘bridging the gap’ between the old and the new. My gallery spaces are intentionally situated within historical host buildings, which I then inject these spaces with a contemporary twist, through the display of artefacts in experimental and unconventional means.

As a result of my background in upcycling, the materiality of the schemes focuses on considering the circular lifecycle of each chosen material and deliberately utilising raw materials which could be easily repurposed within the scheme in the event of aesthetic obsolescence. This is a personal commitment to reducing our environmental impact and encourage the building of an emotionally durable relationship, between the material itself and the viewer.

Fel dylunydd arddangosfeydd, mae gen i ymrwymiad i ymchwilio’n drylwyr i bwnc fy nghynlluniau a chanolbwyntio ar y neges ddyfnach, isganfyddol sy’n cael ei chyfleu i’r gynulleidfa drwy naratif ffisegol y gofod. Rwy’n defnyddio fy nghynlluniau i dynnu sylw at faterion cymdeithasol a chyd-destunau hanesyddol anghofiedig, er mwyn darparu atebion ac annog newid cymdeithasol ehangach.

Mae cynllun fy nyluniadau’n ymdrech fwriadol i amgáu ac ymdrwytho’r gofod, er mwyn tynnu sylw’r gwyliwr at ddeall arwyddocâd y mater dan sylw ynghyd â darparu addysg ynghylch sut y gallan nhw chwarae eu rhan wrth newid agweddau cymdeithasol.

Yn ogystal, mae gen i gryn awydd i ddangos personoliaeth a chymeriad mewn cynllun mewnol a ‘phontio’r bwlch’ rhwng yr hen a’r newydd. Mae fy orielau wedi’u lleoli’n fwriadol mewn adeiladau hanesyddol, ac yna byddaf yn dod ag elfen gyfoes i’r gofodau hyn, drwy arddangos arteffactau mewn ffyrdd arbrofol ac anghonfensiynol.

O ganlyniad i’m cefndir mewn uwchgylchu, mae defnyddioldeb y cynlluniau’n canolbwyntio ar ystyried cylch oes cylchol pob deunydd a ddewisir a defnyddio deunyddiau crai yn fwriadol y gellid eu hailbwrpasu’n hawdd yn y cynllun pe bai ei esthetig yn troi’n ddarfodedig. Mae hwn yn ymrwymiad personol i leihau ein heffaith amgylcheddol ac annog adeiladu perthynas emosiynol gadarn, rhwng y deunydd ei hun a’r gwyliwr.

Unlike some, I cannot say that I always knew Interior Design was the route I was destined to go down. While I have always had a keen eye and a strong love for artistic design, for me, designing a space seemed like more of a hobby rather than a job that I could pursue...

I’m not one for grand philosophical ideas through design that will ultimately end up being someones living or work space. As a designer all I really aspire to do is create something that is of value to the person using that bit of design whether it’s a space or a...

What interior design means to me is creating a space that reaches its purpose’s full potential. Creating a successful interior design is to produce designs that are easily understood, have functionality and have recognisable aesthetics. When approaching an interior...

The intrigue within me in relation to creating inclusive dimensions derives from being well travelled and primarily being in close contact with disabled children. In 2015 I volunteered for an organisation called Allsorts in Stroud, aiming to provide fun activities for...

To me, design is about working with others to find solutions to their problems. It is only by getting onto someone else’s level and experiencing their journey and needs can one create an experience that doesn’t make assumptions. It is how we use design as a tool to...

I approach my projects with the goal of giving the structure a function that is identifiable and related to its users through its internal design, which converts the space into a beautiful environment for the intended experience while also delivering positive and...
