‘SCENE19’ has been hugely inspired by the 90s rave scene, the evolving rave scene and what COVID-19 means to the scene today. Illegal parties, abandoned warehouses and all-night dance music is the heart of this collection, but inspiration has been drawn from how the pandemic has almost seen another summer of love by re-introducing a stop to raves being held legally and seeing a rise in the illegal scene.

Drawing inspiration from COVID19 signs such as ‘keep your distance’ and ‘2 meters please’ and intertwining this with colours taken from strobe lights, visuals, rave stages or newspaper articles is how this collection came together. Spray paints have been used to create the surface pattern alongside a handmade stencil made with acetate. This method portrays the uniform spray-painted messages you see on floors and pathways.

The use of chains and metal details within the designs and accessories were a big part of this collection as they represent ‘entrapment’. This idea came from being in lockdown and feeling ‘trapped’. It also gives an industrial feel to the garments which portrays the illegal rave locations such as abandoned warehouses and old airport terminals. Faux leathers are the main choice of fabric for this collection as, the aim was to create looks with a grungy, club kids feel. The leather adds a sense of sexiness and expression to the garments which embodies what a rave is about, letting go.


Ysbrydolwyd ‘SCENE19’ yn fawr gan y sîn partis gwyllt o’r 90au, y sîn partis gwyllt sy’n esblygu a’r hyn y mae COVID-19 yn ei olygu i’r sîn heddiw. Partïon anghyfreithlon, warysau gwag a cherddoriaeth ddawns drwy’r nos yw calon y casgliad hwn, ond tynnwyd ysbrydoliaeth o’r ffordd y mae’r pandemig bron wedi gweld haf arall o gariad drwy ail-gyflwyno rhoi stop ar gynnal partïon gwyllt yn gyfreithlon a gweld cynnydd yn y sîn anghyfreithlon.

Gan dynnu ysbrydoliaeth o arwyddion COVID-19 fel ‘cadw pellter’ a ‘2 fetr os gwelwch yn dda’ a chydblethu hyn â lliwiau a gymerwyd o oleuadau strôb, delweddau, llwyfannau partïon gwyllt neu erthyglau papur newydd yw sut y daeth y casgliad hwn at ei gilydd. Defnyddiwyd paent chwistrellu i greu’r patrwm arwyneb ochr yn ochr â stensil wedi’i wneud â llaw a wnaethpwyd gydag asetad. Mae’r dull hwn yn portreadu’r negeseuon chwistrellu paent unffurf a welwch ar loriau a llwybrau. Roedd defnyddio cadwyni a manylion metel o fewn y dyluniadau a’r ategolion yn rhan fawr o’r casgliad hwn gan eu bod yn cynrychioli ‘cael eich dal’.

Daeth y syniad hwn o fod dan glo a theimlo’n ‘sownd’. Mae hefyd yn rhoi ymdeimlad diwydiannol i’r dillad sy’n portreadu lleoliadau’r partïon gwyllt anghyfreithlon fel warysau gwag a hen derfynfeydd meysydd awyr. Lledr ffug yw’r prif ddewis o ffabrig ar gyfer y casgliad hwn oherwydd, y nod oedd creu edrychiad gyda theimlad di-raen, clwb plant. Mae’r lledr yn ychwanegu ymdeimlad o rywiaeth a mynegiant i’r dillad sy’n ymgorffori’r hyn y mae partïon gwyllt yn ei wneud; gadael i’ch hyn fynd.
