Hi, my name is Elakija Thirumohan. As a designer, I am influenced and inspired by creating designs that empower women. The industry is primed to offer sustainably crafted designs that satisfy the growing demand for cosy, cocooning comfortability after a year of reflective change. The Covid pandemic has left our minds and bodies feeling “cocooned.” This is how the term “cocooning” evolved, which has totally changed the way we dress since the pandemic. The whole concept of using layers of fabric to replace human contact as a protective blanket has been the fashion trend of 2021. This inspired me to explore the female body image by concealing the body with voluminous shapes for my graduate collection. My designs are expressed through unique silhouettes and textile manipulation inspired by the cocoon.

The collection highlights the richness and diversity of contrasting colours and textured fabrics in a nature-inspired colour palette made from wool and satin. My final year collection is an A/W 22 collection designed for strong young women to boost their body confidence and embrace body positivity
especially in the face of the pandemic.

Helô, fy enw i yw Elakija Thirumohan. Fel dylunydd, mae creu dyluniadau sy’n grymuso menywod yn dylanwadu arnaf ac yn fy ysbrydoli. Ysgogir y diwydiant i gynnig dyluniadau wedi’u saernïo’n gynaliadwy sy’n bodloni’r galw cynyddol am gyfforddusrwydd clyd, cocwnaidd ar ôl blwyddyn o newid myfyriol. Mae pandemig COVID wedi gadael ein meddyliau a’n cyrff yn teimlo fel eu bod mewn “cocŵn”. Dyma sut y datblygodd y term “cocooning”, sydd wedi newid yn llwyr y ffordd rydym yn gwisgo ers y pandemig. Yr holl gysyniad o ddefnyddio haenau o ffabrig i gymryd lle cyswllt dynol fel blanced amddiffynnol fu tuedd ffasiwn 2021. Fe’m hysbrydolwyd gan hyn i archwilio delwedd y corff benywaidd drwy guddio’r corff â siapiau swmpus ar gyfer fy nghasgliad graddedig. Mynegir fy nyluniadau drwy silwetau unigryw a thrin tecstiliau a ysbrydolwyd gan y cocŵn.

Mae’r casgliad yn amlygu cyfoeth ac amrywiaeth lliwiau cyferbyniol a ffabrigau gwehyddu mewn palet lliw a ysbrydolwyd gan natur a wnaed o wlân a sidan. Casgliad Hydref/Gaeaf 22 yw fy nghasgliad blwyddyn olaf a gynlluniwyd ar gyfer menywod ifanc cryf i roi hwb i hyder eu corff a chroesawu positifrwydd y corff, yn enwedig yn wyneb y pandemig.
