BA (Hons) Artist Designer Maker

My collection is based around explorative journeys I have made sourcing the natural materials for my work. On beaches, quarries and cliff tops I have collected alabaster bone and quartz as the starting point for each unique piece. I am fascinated by the beautiful materials that can be found throughout nature and how these can not only be incorporated into but inspire my jewellery pieces. Through casting pewter and woven string, I have explored the structure of quartz formation to create larger statement pieces. I also electroplate found materials that with copper to give them a durability which enables me to create more robust daily wearable pieces. This collection has a distinctive Welsh dimension as it consists of materials sourced from specific in areas in Cardiff, Carmarthenshire and Gwynedd.

Mae fy nghasgliad yn seiliedig ar deithiau ymchwiliadol yr wyf wedi’u gwneud wrth ddod o hyd i’r deunyddiau naturiol ar gyfer fy ngwaith. Ar draethau, mewn chwarelau ac ar ben clogwyni rwyf wedi casglu alabastr, esgyrn a chwarts fel man cychwyn ar gyfer pob darn unigryw. Rwyf wedi fy nghyfareddu gan y deunyddiau prydferth y gellir dod o hyd iddynt mewn natur a sut y gellir nid yn unig ymgorffori’r rhain yn fy narnau gemwaith ond cael fy ysbrydoli ganddynt. Trwy gastio piwter a llinyn wedi’i wau, rwyf wedi ymchwilio i strwythur ffurfiadau cwarts i greu darnau ehangach sy’n gwneud datganiad. Rwyf hefyd yn electroplatio deunyddiau y daethpwyd o hyd iddynt gyda chopr i roi gwydnwch iddynt sy’n fy ngalluogi i greu darnau bob dydd mwy cadarn all gael eu gwisgo. Mae gan y casgliad hwn ddimensiwn Cymreig unigryw gan iddo gynnwys deunyddiau sy’n dod o ardaloedd penodol yng Nghaerdydd, Sir Gâr a Gwynedd.
