BA (Hons) Artist Designer Maker

Informed by the liminal and inherent tensions between the microcosmic and macrocosmic, my work applies textural abstraction – embracing the indiscernibility of ceramics– to everyday objects in an attempt to highlight this liminal tension and the beauty of objects that we take for granted day-to-day. This textural abstraction has been refined through glaze testing, which would later be applied to the surfaces of each piece.

I create simple forms, which allow the glazes an opportunity to come to the fore. I believe in making each piece of work unique, each one bearing a unique mark of the maker, like a scar; a souvenir of its genesis. My tableware pieces are hand-thrown on a potter’s wheel using stoneware clay, and later fired in a reduction kiln.

My pieces are made to be enjoyed and used in the home environment as utilitarian pieces, as well as being observed as artwork.

Mae fy ngwaith, sydd wedi’i gyfeirio gan y tensiynau trothwyol a chynhenid rhwng y microcosmig a’r macrocosmig, yn cymhwyso haniaethiad gweadol – gan gofleidio naws annirnadwy cerameg – i wrthrychau bob dydd mwn ymgais i amlygu’r tensiwn trothwyol hwn a phrydferthwch gwrthrychau rydym yn eu cymryd yn ganiataol o ddydd i ddydd. Mae’r haniaethiad gweadol hwn wedi’i fireinio trwy brofi gwydredd, a fyddai wedyn yn cael ei gymhwyso i arwynebau pob darn.

Rwy’n creu ffurfiau syml, sy’n rhoi cyfle i’r gwydreddau ddod i’r amlwg. Rwy’n credu mewn gwneud pob darn o waith yn unigryw, pob un â marc unigryw y crëwr arno, fel craith; swfenîr o’i gread. Mae fy narnau llestri wedi’u taflu â llaw ar olwyn crochenydd gan ddefnyddio clai crochenwaith caled, ac wedi’u tanio wedyn mewn odyn rhydwythol.

Mae fy narnau’n cael eu gwneud i’w mwynhau a’u defnyddio yn yr amgylchedd cartref fel darnau iwtilitaraidd, yn ogystal â chael eu hedmygu fel gwaith celf.
