BA (Hons) Illustration

Reconnecting and rebuilding our relationship with the natural world is as vital as ever. My illustration practice focuses on creating educational and decorative patterned homeware and giftware products which will inspire people to become more in sync and appreciative of nature. This project explores the deep history and various traditions from a range of cultures, associated with eight seasonal festivals, referred to as ‘The Wheel of the Year’ which is celebrated within the Pagan religion, Wicca. Through illustrative patterned homeware and giftware products, I aim to introduce the history behind these festivals, as well as the traditions and rituals associated with each into people’s homes to raise awareness of these festivals which are not commonly celebrated today. These products hope to encourage people to celebrate the turning of the seasons by using these to perform the appropriate rituals for each festival and become more intertwined with the natural world and its beautiful changes throughout the year.

Mae ailgysylltu ac ailadeiladu ein perthynas â’r byd naturiol mor hanfodol ag erioed. Mae fy ymarfer darlunio’n canolbwyntio ar greu nwyddau cartref a rhoddion patrymog addysgol ac addurniadol a fydd yn ysbrydoli pobl i werthfawrogi a dod yn fwy ymwybodol o natur. Mae’r prosiect yn archwilio hanes dwfn a thraddodiadau amrywiol o amrywiaeth o ddiwylliannau, sy’n gysylltiedig ag wyth gŵyl dymhorol, y cyfeirir atynt fel ‘Olwyn y Flwyddyn’ sy’n cael ei dathlu yng nghrefydd Baganaidd Wicca. Drwy gynhyrchion nwyddau cartref ac anrhegion patrymog darluniadol, fy nod yw cyflwyno’r hanes y tu ôl i’r gwyliau hyn, yn ogystal â’r traddodiadau a’r defodau sy’n gysylltiedig â phob un, i gartrefi pobl er mwyn codi ymwybyddiaeth o’r gwyliau hyn nad ydynt yn cael eu dathlu’n gyffredin heddiw. Mae’r cynhyrchion hyn yn annog pobl, gobeithio, i ddathlu troad y tymhorau, drwy eu defnyddio i berfformio’r defodau priodol ar gyfer pob gŵyl a dod yn fwy cydblethedig â’r byd naturiol a’i newidiadau hardd drwy gydol y flwyddyn.
