BA (Hons) Illustration

As an illustrator and storyteller, I have retold the Greek tale of ‘Pandora’s Box’ in modern day, as I am influenced by the interconnectivity between society and mythology, and the works of creators such as Paula Rego, and Orly Orbach. My work is subconsciously impacted by the current and recent times we live in and aimed at young adults. The visual language of my illustrations intends to evoke emotion, and relate to the audience, through the expressive use of ink and dry brush mark making. This is all combined in an artist book form shaped as a box, which you can open and fold out, that parallels with the context of the retelling, using a cinematic like and dark monochrome aesthetic. Book illustration, and storytelling in many variations is what I am interested in personally and hope to pursue.

Fel darlunydd a storïwr, rydw i wedi ail-greu stori Roegaidd ‘Blwch Pandora’ yn y byd modern, gan fod y rhyng-gysylltedd rhwng cymdeithas a mytholeg yn dylanwadu arna i, a gwaith doniau creadigol fel Paula Rego ac Orly Orbach. Mae fy ngwaith yn cael ei effeithio’n isymwybodol gan y cyfnodau presennol a diweddar rydym yn byw ynddyn nhw, ac mae’n ceisio apelio at oedolion ifanc. Nod iaith weledol fy narluniau yw ysgogi emosiwn, a chysylltu â’r gynulleidfa, drwy ddefnyddio inc a gwneud marciau brwsh sych yn fynegiannol. Mae hyn i gyd wedi’i gyfuno ar ffurf llyfr artist sydd â siâp blwch, y gallwch ei agor, sy’n cyd-fynd â chyd-destun yr ailadrodd, gan ddefnyddio esthetig sinematig a monocrom tywyll. Darlunio llyfrau, ac adrodd straeon mewn ffyrdd amrywiol sydd o ddiddordeb i mi’n bersonol ac rwy’n gobeithio dilyn y trywydd hwnnw.
