Untitled Composition
Pushing the boundaries of the definitions of “body” and “object” brings us to a point of transition; no longer is the body required to be simply represented, but instead can be subtly suggested through visual metaphor. The fine line between body and object can be pushed and bent using the suggestive nature of bodily textures and the historical context of the ceramic object to create surface tension and suggestion of transformation. Inspired by unrest and anxiety, the contrast between the intimate marks of my fingers in raw clay and the harsh lines of my tools cutting through the surface of the slip I present an undefined situation, open entirely to personal interpretation.
