BA (Hons) Interior Design

I am a 3rd-year student studying interior design at Cardiff Metropolitan University. I aim to approach my design practically and personally, which allows me to form my style and aesthetic. Focused on modern-day movements such as sustainability and feminism. I desire for my work to be through provoking and in line with the issues that are surfacing within the media. My dissertation is focused on the three elements of sustainability within the design, environmental, social, and economic. Concentrating on exploring new inventive ways for designing interiors for temporary retail stores for sustainable fashion brands. This had resulted in me making wiser choices of materials throughout my design process. For my final project, I decided to design a women’s(+) retreat center. Each of the spaces aims to fulfill a specific purpose with will benefit the mental or physical health of the guest. This project allowed me to develop my technical skills as the host building is on a much larger scale than I have worked with before. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I have been faced with more challenges, however, I have significantly developed my communicational skills.

Rwy’n fyfyriwr 3edd flwyddyn sy’n astudio dylunio mewnol ym Mhrifysgol Metropolitan Caerdydd. Fy mwriad yw trin fy nyluniadau mewn modd ymarferol a phersonol, sy’n caniatáu imi ffurfio fy steil ac esthetig, yn canolbwyntio ar symudiadau modern fel cynaliadwyedd a ffeministiaeth. Rwy’n dymuno i’m gwaith brocio’r meddwl a chyd-fynd â’r materion sy’n dod i’r amlwg o fewn y cyfryngau. Mae fy nhraethawd hir yn canolbwyntio ar dair elfen cynaliadwyedd o fewn y dyluniad: amgylcheddol, cymdeithasol ac economaidd. Mae’n canolbwyntio ar archwilio ffyrdd newydd dyfeisgar o ddylunio ystafelloedd ar gyfer siopau adwerthu dros dro i frandiau ffasiwn cynaliadwy. Arweiniodd hyn ataf yn gwneud dewisiadau deunyddiau doethach trwy gydol fy mhroses ddylunio. Ar gyfer fy mhrosiect terfynol, penderfynais ddylunio canolfan encilio i fenywod(+). Nod pob un o’r mannau yw diwallu pwrpas penodol a fydd o fudd i iechyd meddwl neu gorfforol y gwestai. Caniataodd y prosiect hwn imi ddatblygu fy sgiliau technegol gan fod yr adeilad dan sylw yn llawer mwy o ran graddfa na weithiais ag ef o’r blaen. Oherwydd pandemig Covid-19, rydw i wedi wynebu mwy o heriau. Fodd bynnag, rydw i wedi datblygu fy sgiliau cyfathrebu yn sylweddol.

Unlike some, I cannot say that I always knew Interior Design was the route I was destined to go down. While I have always had a keen eye and a strong love for artistic design, for me, designing a space seemed like more of a hobby rather than a job that I could pursue...

I’m not one for grand philosophical ideas through design that will ultimately end up being someones living or work space. As a designer all I really aspire to do is create something that is of value to the person using that bit of design whether it’s a space or a...

What interior design means to me is creating a space that reaches its purpose’s full potential. Creating a successful interior design is to produce designs that are easily understood, have functionality and have recognisable aesthetics. When approaching an interior...

The intrigue within me in relation to creating inclusive dimensions derives from being well travelled and primarily being in close contact with disabled children. In 2015 I volunteered for an organisation called Allsorts in Stroud, aiming to provide fun activities for...

To me, design is about working with others to find solutions to their problems. It is only by getting onto someone else’s level and experiencing their journey and needs can one create an experience that doesn’t make assumptions. It is how we use design as a tool to...
