As a designer, I am continuously influenced and stimulated by the world around me and the political, social and environmental issue that are pertinent at present.

‘Parody’ draws inspiration from the history and art of Burlesque. Burlesque is a type of variety show that is both provocative and comedic; it comes from the Italian word ‘Mockery’. From this I intended to create a collection that focused on fun but sensual fashion, targeting a customer that is quite boisterous, free spirited and self-assured. I love using fashion and clothing to transform the wearer, making her/him feel confident and liberated. The silhouettes and design techniques of my final garments encapsulates the fantasy of Burlesque and it portrays the same sense of escapism and fun that comes with it, combining the glamour, excitement and euphoria, which I believe people are really craving at the moment.

I often take inspiration from fashion houses such as Vivienne Westwood and Mugler, who are known for using pattern cutting and silhouettes that experiment with proportion and exaggerating the female figure.

My interest in academic research and history feeds the narrative of my collections; often incorporating key clothing pieces of various time periods and redesigning them and adapting them for modern fashion and consumers. This passion alongside my interest in post-modernity and progressive ideals surrounding sexuality and gender heavily influence my design work and an aspect I wish to push further within my projects. My ability to identify long-lasting, important and key trends further ensure my designs are relevant and suitable to my audience.

Mae ‘Parody’ yn tynnu ysbrydoliaeth o hanes a chelf Burlesque. Mae Burlesque yn fath o sioe amrywiaeth sy’n bryfoclyd ac yn ddigrif; daw o’r gair Eidaleg ‘Mockery’. O hyn, roeddwn i’n bwriadu creu casgliad a oedd yn canolbwyntio ar ffasiwn hwyliog ond synhwyrol, gan dargedu cwsmer sy’n eithaf hwyliog, ysbryd rhydd ac yn hunan-sicr. Rwyf wrth fy modd yn defnyddio ffasiwn a dillad i drawsnewid y gwisgwr, gan wneud iddo ef/hi deimlo’n hyderus a rhydd. Mae silwetau a thechnegau dylunio fy nillad gorffenedig yn crisialu ffantasi Burlesque ac mae’n portreadu’r un ymdeimlad o ddihangfa a hwyl a ddaw gydag ef, gan gyfuno’r hudoliaeth, y cyffro a’r ewfforia, y credaf fod pobl yn chwennych ar hyn o bryd.

Rwy’n aml yn cymryd ysbrydoliaeth o dai ffasiwn fel Vivienne Westwood a Mugler, sy’n adnabyddus am ddefnyddio torri patrymau a silwetau sy’n arbrofi’n gymesur ac yn gorliwio’r ffigur benywaidd.

Mae fy niddordeb mewn ymchwil academaidd a hanes yn bwydo naratif fy nghasgliadau; yn aml yn ymgorffori darnau dillad allweddol o gyfnodau amser amrywiol a’u hailgynllunio a’u haddasu ar gyfer ffasiwn modern a defnyddwyr. Mae’r angerdd hwn ochr yn ochr â’m diddordeb mewn ôl-foderniaeth a delfrydau blaengar sy’n ymwneud â rhywioldeb a rhywedd yn dylanwadu’n fawr ar fy ngwaith dylunio ac agwedd yr wyf am ei gwthio ymhellach o fewn fy mhrosiectau. Mae fy ngallu i nodi tueddiadau hirhoedlog, pwysig ac allweddol yn sicrhau ymhellach bod fy nyluniadau yn berthnasol ac yn addas i’m cynulleidfa.
