BA (Hons) Artist Designer Maker

I am an Artist, Designer; Maker driven by raising awareness of social issues through interactive furniture and zines. I strive to create pieces which stimulate conversations about climate change, social interaction and education. Where possible I use materials that otherwise would have been discarded, such as broken or out of style furniture. I re-appropriate these objects to become desirable furnishing once more. I also design my own bold graphics which I use in my pictorial zines and in screen printing.

Armchair Activism

Armchair Activism explores how people react when acting for social, environmental or political change.
The first chair is the Ultimate activist chair, designed with interactive levers which produce banners and zines. The chair also has storage for a loudspeaker, all of which is built to be hidden in the frame. This chair represents those that feel able to speak out about making a change. The second chair represents the feeling of being consumed by an issue so much so that you do not feel able to ground yourself in order to make a stand. The hand printed fabric shows a black hole into which everything surrounding the individual is being sucked; the deep-set seat gives the sitter a physical representation of this sensation.

Both states are presented in the form of armchairs which connote the comfort and security of being sat in one’s home. Therefore, this leaves the question whether action or in-action in activism really makes a markable change in the world.

Rwy’n Artist, Dylunydd; Crëwr a symbylir gan gynyddu ymwybyddiaeth o faterion cymdeithasol trwy ddodrefn ryngweithiol a sinau. Rwy’n anelu at greu darnau sy’n ysgogi sgyrsiau am newid yn yr hinsawdd, rhyngweithio cymdeithasol ac addysg. Lle bo’n bosib, rwy’n defnyddio deunyddiau y byddent fel arall wedi’u gwaredu, megis dodrefn sydd wedi’u torri neu allan o steil. Rwy’n ailddefnyddio’r gwrthrychau hyn i fod yn ddodrefn fwy dymunol unwaith eto. Rwyf hefyd yn dylunio fy ngraffeg eofn fy hun yr wyf yn ei defnyddio yn fy sinau darluniadol ac wrth sgrîn-brintio.

Actifiaeth Cadair Breichiau

Mae Actifiaeth Cadair Breichiau yn ymchwilio i sut mae pobl yn ymateb wrth weithredu dros newid cymdeithasol, amgylcheddol neu wleidyddol.

Y gadair gyntaf yw’r gadair actifydd Eithaf, wedi’i dylunio gyda liferi rhyngweithiol sy’n cynhyrchu baneri a sinau. Mae gan y gadair lle i storio uchelseinydd hefyd, y mae’r cyfan ohono wedi’i adeiladu i’w guddio yn y ffrâm. Mae’r gadair hon yn cynrychioli’r rhai sy’n teimlo y gallant siarad allan am greu newid. Mae’r ail gadair yn cynrychioli’r teimlad o deimlo mor gryf am rywbeth gan olygu nad ydych yn teimlo y gallwch ddaearu eich hun er mwyn gwneud safiad. Mae’r ffabrig a brintiwyd â llaw yn dangos twll du y mae popeth o gwmpas yr unigolyn yn cael ei sugno i mewn iddo; mae’r sedd ddofn yn rhoi cynrychioliad corfforol o’r teimlad hwn i’r sawl sy’n eistedd ynddo.

Cyflwynir y ddau gyflwr ar ffurf cadair breichiau sy’n awgrymu cysur a diogelwch eistedd yn eich cartref eich hun. Felly, mae hyn yn codi’r cwestiwn p’un a yw gweithredu neu ddiffyg gweithredu mewn actifiaeth yn creu newid go iawn yn y byd ai beidio.
