Inspired by a previous brief, my current work explores the Bowl/ vessel as a representation of the human body/spirit and our need to be connected.

Originally envisioned as a ceramic and textile collection, the current Covid-19 Pandemic and its physical constraints regarding workshops, materials and processes encouraged a different course of making to be used. As the previous brief was used to explore Papier Mache, using strips of white tissue paper and pva glue around a form, I continued with this technique to create a series of bowls / vessels, with fewer layers to allow the fragility to be seen. Although the vessels themselves are quite resilient, the weight of the textile extensions distorted them. This then created a change in direction in the forming of the extensions and the thought processes behind their shape, size and placement. Were they needed? Did they add to the overall purpose of the collection?

This left a few vessels without any appendages to allow their form and simplicity to become visible without distraction and create another element to the narrative I wished to convey.

Mae fy ngwaith presennol, sydd wedi’i ysbrydoli gan frîff blaenorol, yn ymchwilio i’r Bowlen/llestr fel cynrychioliad o’r corff/ysbryd dynol a’n hangen am fod yn gysylltiedig.

Fe’i dychmygwyd yn wreiddiol fel casgliad cerameg a thecstilau, ond mae’r pandemig Covid-19 presennol a’i gyfyngiadau diriaethol o ran gweithdai, deunyddiau a phrosesau wedi annog defnyddio dull arall o greu. Gan y defnyddiwyd y brîff blaenorol i ymchwilio i Papier Mache, gan ddefnyddio stribedi o bapur sidan gwyn a glud pva o gwmpas ffurf, parheais â’r dechneg hon i greu cyfres o bowlenni / llestri, gyda llai o haenau i alluogi i’r bregusrwydd gael ei weld. Er bod y llestri eu hunain yn eithaf gwydn, mae pwysau’r estyniadau tecstil wedi’u haflunio nhw. Wedyn bu i hyn greu newid cyfeiriad wrth ffurfio’r estyniadau a’r prosesau meddwl y tu ôl i’w siâp, maint a lleoliad. A oedd eu hangen nhw? A wnaethant ychwanegu at ddiben cyffredinol y casgliad?

Gadawodd hyn nifer bach o lestri heb unrhyw ychwanegiadau i alluogi i’w ffurf a symlrwydd fod yn weladwy heb dynnu sylw a chreu elfen arall i’r naratif yr oeddwn eisiau ei gyfleu.
