BA (Hons) Artist Designer Maker

The aim of my practice is to make people more aware of their environment and the material world around them. We don’t respect our planet, and my practice attempts to change this. By appreciating the objects and materials we use every day, maybe we can reverse the damage we have done to our world and become more harmonious with our surroundings. My pieces are inspired by primitive pottery; the people who made these pots had a better understanding of their environment than we do today. Ancient pots are imbued with this intelligence and regard, and I am trying to channel this with my work.

The work is created using a combination of throwing and hand building techniques, they are then burnished and covered with a thin slip and fired in a saggar with combustible materials collected from my environment; they are permeated with coloured smoke from the firing.

Nod fy arfer yw gwneud pobl yn fwy ymwybodol o’u hamgylchedd a’r byd materol o’u cwmpas. Nid ydym yn parchu ein planed, ac mae fy arfer yn ceisio newid hyn. Trwy werthfawrogi’r gwrthrychau a’r deunyddiau a ddefnyddiwn bob dydd, efallai y gallwn wrthdroi’r niwed yr ydym wedi’i wneud i’n byd a mynd yn fwy cytûn â’n hamgylchfyd. Mae fy narnau’n cael eu hysbrydoli gan grochenwaith cyntefig; roedd gan y bobl a wnaeth y potiau hyn well dealltwriaeth o’u hamgylchedd nag a wnawn heddiw. Mae potiau hynafol wedi’u trwytho â’r deallusrwydd a’r parch hwn, ac yr wyf yn ceisio sianelu hyn gyda fy ngwaith.

Mae fy ngwaith yn cael ei greu gan ddefnyddio cyfuniad o dechnegau taflu ac adeiladu â llaw, yna cânt eu bwrneisio a’u gorchuddio â slip tenau a’u tanio mewn saggar gyda deunyddiau hylosg a gesglir o fy amgylchedd; maent wedi’u treiddio â mwg lliwiedig o’r tanio.
