Generation Snowflake

As a young designer, I am aware of the increasing importance of mental health awareness especially amongst young people who are seeing a rise in mental health issues. As someone who has personally suffered with mental health, I find it greatly important to create awareness of how mental health is dealt with in our healthcare system and explore how society views individuals with mental health problems. A big part of my research has been looking into the adequacy of the help available to young people in this country, whilst also exploring my own and others symptoms of mental health and how these effect the creative process.

As a creative, I place particular focus on the use of colour theory within design and its links to mental health, within my research and garments I use colour placement to represent key stages of mental health. I used colours which widely represent certain emotions to the human psyche and played around with shape and texture to utilise the emotional effects of colour. Life can often be dull and numb to someone who suffers with mental health and colour is underestimated in its use to brighten someone’s day, through exploration of creativity and spirituality, I hope to offer and insight into the world of someone who is suffering from mental health, but also show the positives and small things which lighten someone’s suffering.

I strive to show the strength that those who suffer from mental health embody.

Fel dylunydd ifanc, rwy’n ymwybodol o bwysigrwydd cynyddol ymwybyddiaeth iechyd meddwl yn enwedig ymysg pobl ifanc sy’n gweld cynnydd mewn problemau iechyd meddwl. Fel rhywun sydd wedi dioddef gydag iechyd meddwl yn bersonol, rwy’n gweld ei fod yn hynod bwysig i greu ymwybyddiaeth o sut yr ymdrinnir ag iechyd meddwl yn ein system gofal iechyd ac i archwilio sut mae cymdeithas yn gweld unigolion sydd â phroblemau iechyd meddwl. Mae rhan fawr o fy ymchwil wedi edrych ar ddigonolrwydd y cymorth sydd ar gael i bobl ifanc yn y wlad hon, ac ar yr un pryd ymchwilio i fy symptomau fy hun a rhai pobl eraill o iechyd meddwl a sut mae’r rhain yn effeithio ar y broses greadigol.

Fel rhywun creadigol, rwy’n gosod pwyslais penodol ar y defnydd o theori lliw o fewn dylunio a’i gysylltiadau ag iechyd meddwl, yn fy ymchwil a fy nillad rwy’n defnyddio lleoliadau lliw i gynrychioli camau allweddol iechyd meddwl. Defnyddiais liwiau a fyddai’n cynrychioli emosiynau penodol yn eang i’r seice dynol a chwaraeais o gwmpas gyda siâp a gwead i ddefnyddio effeithiau emosiynol lliw. Yn aml gall bywyd fod yn ddwl ac yn ddideimlad i rywun sy’n dioddef gydag iechyd meddwl a thanamcangyfrifir lliw o ran ei ddefnydd i loywi diwrnod rhywun, trwy ymchwilio i greadigrwydd ac ysbrydolrwydd rwy’n gobeithio cynnig mewnwelediad i fyd rhywun sy’n dioddef gyda’i iechyd meddwl , ond hefyd dangos yr agweddau positif a phethau bychain sy’n lleddfu dioddefaint.

Rwy’n ceisio dangos y cryfder sy’n rhan annatod o unrhyw un sy’n dioddef gyda’i iechyd meddwl.
