Abbey Preece

BA (Hons) Fine Art

My current practice aims to demonstrate the paradoxical relationship between the crossing over of boundaries of both the physical world and the cybernetic world. Through doing this the work addresses the physical and psychological effects social media and digital technology are having on my generation.

My interests are founded by my constant fascination with the idea that validation is sought through social media. These are shown through platforms, such as; Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. This is further explored through the use of a variety of different mediums including; video, text, Images, performance, and drawing in the expanded sense.

By incorporating influences from the internet, social media platforms and digital media, my aim in making work is to highlight the disparity between the imagined and the real. This opens up a multifaceted set of possibilities for visualizing our constant battle with individuality.

Nod fy ymarfer presennol yw dangos y berthynas baradocsaidd rhwng croesi ffiniau y byd ffisegol a’r byd seibernetaidd. Drwy wneud hyn, mae’r gwaith yn mynd i’r afael ag effeithiau corfforol a seicolegol y mae cyfryngau cymdeithasol a thechnoleg ddigidol yn ei gael ar fy nghenhedlaeth i.

Mae’r syniad bod pethau’n cael eu dilysu drwy’r cyfryngau cymdeithasol yn destun rhyfeddod cyson i mi ac yn sail i’r diddordeb sydd gen i. Mae hyn i’w weld drwy lwyfannau megis Instagram, Facebook a Twitter. Caiff hyn ei archwilio ymhellach drwy ddefnyddio amrywiaeth o gyfryngau gwahanol gan gynnwys fideo, testun, delweddau, perfformiad, a lluniadau yn yr ystyr ehangach.

Drwy gynnwys dylanwadau o’r rhyngrwyd, llwyfannau’r cyfryngau cymdeithasol a’r cyfryngau digidol, fy nod drwy greu gwaith yw amlygu’r gwahaniaeth rhwng yr hyn y byddwn yn ei ddychmygu a’r hyn sy’n real. Bydd hyn yn agor nifer o bosibiliadau amlweddog er mwyn delweddu ein brwydr gyson ag unigolrwydd.
