BA (Hons) Fine Art

My practice aims to investigate myself, both as an individual and an artist. This is done through an in depth, uncensored analysis of my thoughts and perception of the world, through photography, writing and drawing. I intend to psychologically contextualize the work I create and the reasons why, using the research developed from my dissertation, in which I explored the concepts of perception and self-actualisation, as devised by Maslow.

My most recent exploration of these processes has materialised in the form of Polaroid photography; I am striving to develop an external portrayal of my internal monologue as both an emotionally complex human being and artist. This choice in medium addresses the desire to capture with immediacy and exist within moments or locations that I find to be significant or intimate, for a variety of reasons which I then explore through my written analyses.

Another facet of self exploration has been realised through the medium of text – both verse and prose. Expressing and externalising thoughts through words and the following development of understanding the relationship between textual and photographic productions is a highly interesting and ongoing process. My public sharing of these two elements is enlightening yet exposing. Themes such as death, melancholia and the romantic are continuously explored and interrogated. Overall, these works and my praxis aims to exhibit deeper, typically unspoken feelings of anxiety, loneliness, heartache and loss.

Nod fy ymarfer yw archwilio i mewn i fi fy hunan, yn unigolyn ac yn artist. Gwneir hyn drwy ddadansoddiad trylwyr heb ei sensro o’m meddyliau a’m canfyddiad o’r byd, drwy ffotograffiaeth, ysgrifennu a thynnu lluniau. Rwy’n bwriadu rhoi’r gwaith rwy’n ei greu o fewn cyd-destun seicolegol ynghyd â’r rhesymau pam, drwy ddefnyddio’r ymchwil a ddatblygwyd o’m traethawd hir, lle bues i’n archwilio cysyniadau canfyddiad a hunan-sylweddoliad, fel y cawson nhw eu dyfeisio gan Maslow.

Fe wnaeth fy archwiliad diweddaraf i’r prosesau hyn weld golau dydd ar ffurf ffotograffiaeth Polaroid. Rwy’n ceisio datblygu portread allanol o’m hymson mewnol, a minnau’n fod dynol sy’n gymhleth yn emosiynol ac yn artist. Mae’r dewis cyfrwng hwn yn mynd i’r afael â’r awydd i ddal ar unwaith a chael bodoli o fewn eiliadau neu leoliadau rwy’n eu cael yn rhai arwyddocaol neu agos am nifer o resymau gwahanol y byddaf wedyn yn eui harchwilio drwy fy nadansoddiadau ysgrifenedig.

Gwireddwyd gwedd arall ar hunan-archwilio drwy gyfrwng testun – yn farddoniaeth ac yn rhyddiaith. Mae mynegi ac allanoli meddyliau drwy eiriau a’r ddealltwriaeth ddatblygol sy’n dilyn ynglŷn â’r berthynas rhwng cynyrchiadau testun a ffotograffau yn ddiddorol dros ben ac mae’n broses barhaol. Mae rhannu’r ddwy elfen hon yn gyhoeddus yn fy ngoleuo ond eto yn fy ngadael yn agored hefyd. Caiff themâu megis marwolaeth, melancolia a’r rhamantus eu harchwilio a’u holi’n barhaus. Yn gyffredinol, bwriad y gweithiau hyn a’m harfer yw arddangos teimladau dyfnach nodweddiadol di-fynegiant o bryder, unigrwydd, poen calon a cholled.
