BA (Hons) Textiles

I am a surface pattern designer currently based in Cardiff, Wales originally from Swindon, England. My time at university has allowed me to discover my style of working and a growth of confidence in my practice. I like to explore a variety of mediums in my work to communicate with my project themes. My techniques of choice are generally developing my drawings within adobe programmes before printing onto fabric and creating delicate hand and machine embroidery. I believe using these techniques and processes capture detailed and unique elements to my work, bringing the best out of my creative ability. Practicing with this process has also given me a lot of experience in creating professional surface designs, particularly using computer aided programmes such as Photoshop and Illustrator.

My current collection is based on the culture of Pakistan. The purpose of this theme was to let the audience experience the culture and its colours radiating from the textile wall hangings. I have created four sub-themes to show what Pakistan is all about. Each sub-theme is portrayed on separate wall hangings, they are Pakistani Trucks, Henna (mehndi), Pakistani embroidery and famous buildings. My designs portray some traditional elements, whether they are the motifs or the embroidery, however I have created my designs to be contemporary with the culture still shining through. I have produced my wall hangings to be a collection on their own as well as a group; this is to show that I am able to work across a large body of work as well as small.

Rwy’n ddylunydd patrwm arwynebau sydd ar hyn o bryd yn byw yng Nghaerdydd ond yn wreiddiol o Swindon. Caniataodd fy nghyfnod yn y brifysgol i mi ganfod fy steil o weithio ac i’m hyder ymarfer i gynyddu. Rwy’n hoffi archwilio amrywiaeth o gyfryngau yn fy ngwaith er mwyn cyfathrebu themâu fy mhrosiect. Fy newis o dechnegau’n gyffredinol yw datblygu fy narluniadau drwy raglenni adobe cyn printio ar ddeunydd a chreu brodwaith cain â llaw ac â pheiriant. Credaf fod defnyddio’r technegau a’r prosesau hyn yn dal yr elfennau manwl ac unigryw sydd yn fy ngwaith, gan arddangos y gorau o’m galluoedd creadigol. Mae ymarfer y broses hon hefyd wedi rhoi llawer o brofiad i mi i greu dyluniadau arwynebau proffesiynol, yn arbennig drwy ddefnyddio rhaglenni ar gyfrifiadur megis Photoshop ac Illustrator.

Mae fy nghasgliad cyfredol yn seiliedig ar ddiwylliant Pacistan. Pwrpas y thema hon oedd caniatáu i’r gynulleidfa gael profiad o’r diwylliant a’i liwiau sy’n tywynnu o’r tecstilau gorchudd waliau. Rwyf wedi creu pedair is-thema i ddangos rhai o hanfodion Pacistan. Caiff pob is-thema ei phortreadu ar orchudd wal unigol, sef celf Tryciau Pacistan, Henna (mehndi), brodwaith Pacistanaidd ac adeiladau enwog. Mae fy nyluniadau’n portreadu rhai o’r elfennau traddodiadol, naill ai fel motiffau neu yn y brodwaith, fodd bynnag rwyf wedi creu fy nyluniadau i fod yn rhai cyfoes gyda’r diwylliant yn parhau i dreiddio drwodd. Rwyf wedi cynhyrchu fy ngorchuddion waliau i fod gasgliadau unigol yn ogystal â rhai mewn grŵp; mae hyn er mwyn dangos mod i’n gallu gweithio ar gorff mawr o waith yn ogystal â gwaith bychan.
