In my work I use traditional materials to produce abstract pieces of artwork. I focus on using acrylic paint when painting. My work centres around the hand and magnifying into the details within the skin. Whilst using such a popular medium, I try to experiment and explore as much as possible with textures and tones making my work easy on the eye. The intention behind my work is to use the idea of the mundane, wanting people to see past the original thought of what my work might be. I have enjoyed exploring different scales and exaggerating proportions. As humans we make assumptions about the human figure from the smallest amount of data which I can use to my advantage by using the subtle brush stroke technique I use to simplify the work. This makes people think about what it may truly mean as well as making them focus on what they are using in their everyday life. Hands are such a symbolic body part although they are underestimated due to their versatility. The intention is to leave my viewers with an open mind, to ponder beyond their initial thoughts of their first glances and to think more deeply about the paintings. My work isn’t intended to be obvious, people may judge from a first glance but the more it is viewed the more personal it should become.

Yn fy ngwaith, rwy’n defnyddio deunyddiau traddodiadol i gynhyrchu darnau haniaethol o waith celf. Rwy’n canolbwyntio ar ddefnyddio paent acrylig wrth beintio. Mae fy ngwaith yn canolbwyntio ar y llaw ac ar graffu’n fanwl ar fanylion yn y croen. Wrth ddefnyddio cyfrwng mor boblogaidd, rwy’n ceisio arbrofi ac archwilio i’r eithaf gyda gweadau ac arlliwiau, a gwneud fy ngwaith yn apelgar i’r llygad. Y bwriad y tu ôl i’m gwaith yw defnyddio’r syniad o’r cyffredin, a’r awydd i bobl weld y tu hwnt i’w syniadau gwreiddiol am yr hyn yw fy ngwaith. Rydw i wedi mwynhau archwilio gwahanol raddfeydd a gorwneud cyfraneddau. Fel bodau dynol, rydyn ni’n ffurfio rhagdybiaethau am y ffigur dynol ar sail y swm lleiaf o fanylion, ac rwy’n defnyddio hynny o’m plaid fy hun drwy ddefnyddio techneg trawiadau brwsh cynnil i symleiddio’r gwaith. Mae hyn yn gwneud i bobl feddwl am yr ystyr posib, yn ogystal â gwneud iddyn nhw ganolbwyntio ar yr hyn maen nhw’n eu defnyddio yn eu bywyd bob dydd. Mae dwylo yn rhan mor symbolaidd o’r corff, ond mae eu defnyddioldeb yn peri i bobl beidio â’u gwerthfawrogi’n llawn. Fy mwriad yw gadael fy ngwylwyr gyda meddwl agored, i adfyfyrio y tu hwnt i’r syniadau cychwynnol ar ôl yr olwg gyntaf, a meddwl yn ddyfnach am y paentiadau. Dydy hi ddim yn fwriad i’m gwaith fod yn amlwg. Mae pobl yn gallu ffurfio barn ar yr olwg gyntaf, ond dylai’r darnau ddod yn fwyfwy personol po fwyaf y bydd y gwyliwr yn edrych arnyn nhw.

My artwork was initially inspired by the rave scene which is usually an intense environment of music, colour and lights. I decided to recreate the feelings that my experience evoked, with the use of illuminative acrylics and spray paints on canvas. As spray painting...

Our species has become increasingly disconnected from nature. I focus on landscapes of personal significance and/or landscapes that have been disrupted by industrial use. Materials from these sites (often rocks, muds, and bricks) are used through a process-orientated...

Non-linear narratives such as unreliable memories, leaky dreams and deja vu are a central reference within my practice. I address the structure of these forms of narrative using repetition, replication and iterations of time. My work is largely sculptural, using...

Exploring the fragmentation of memory through the physicality of found objects and the spoken word, my work has become an archive of my family history. Due to the archival nature of my work, I replicate ways of preserving my objects through the attentiveness of their...

In my current practice I am concerned with the objectivity and phenomenology of colour. Through using media such as light and coloured acetate, my present work is intentionally focused and uncluttered, allowing colour to be considered as a singularity without any...

With a love for colour my work addresses form and shape and the impact this has on a space. I am demonstrating how the use of bright colour can create maximum optical impact. I’m interested in pattern and repetition to create a visual aesthetic whilst whilst working...
