Storm Dennis beat the record for the most flood warnings in force at the same time, as communities woke up to their homes and streets flooded on Sunday the 16th of February 2020. The storm brought a month’s worth of rain in 48 hours to flood-hit parts of Wales. Hundreds of homes and businesses have been badly damaged with more than 20,000 properties across the region suffered power cuts during the storm.
The project highlights the underlying political relevance to the floods and their impact on the communities affected, focusing on the village of Nantgarw. It is thought provoking and encourages change on a debate that is currently being overlooked. It invites discussion about why devastation like this keeps happening and why preventative measures are not being put in place. Whilst it can be celebrated that the community has come together during these hardships, it asks the question as to why the local council and government have not been more involved.

This digital protest pack instils confidence into people and gives them the tools they need to help make the change. Made up of digital and downloadable resources, they can be shared online or printed for people to put up in their windows, for example. There is guidance for fundraising and how to contact your local MP. The more people that get involved, the bigger the impact can be.
Together we are heard, not forgotten.

Curodd Storm Dennis y record am y nifer fwyaf o rybuddion llifogydd a oedd mewn grym ar yr un pryd, wrth i gymunedau ddeffro i’w cartrefi a’u strydoedd wedi gorlifo ddydd Sul yr 16eg o Chwefror 2020. Daeth y storm â gwerth mis o law mewn 48 awr i rannau o Gymru a gafodd eu taro gan lifogydd. Mae cannoedd o gartrefi a busnesau wedi cael eu difrodi’n ddrwg gyda mwy na 20,000 o eiddo ledled y rhanbarth wedi dioddef toriadau pŵer yn ystod y storm.

Mae’r prosiect yn tynnu sylw at berthnasedd gwleidyddol sylfaenol i’r llifogydd a’u heffaith ar y cymunedau yr effeithir arnynt, gan ganolbwyntio ar bentref Nantgarw. Mae’n procio’r meddwl ac yn annog newid mewn dadl sy’n cael ei hanwybyddu ar hyn o bryd. Mae’n gwahodd trafodaeth ynghylch pam mae dinistr fel hyn yn parhau i ddigwydd a pham nad yw mesurau ataliol yn cael eu rhoi ar waith. Er y gellir dathlu bod y gymuned wedi dod at ei gilydd yn ystod y caledi hyn, mae’n gofyn y cwestiwn pam nad yw’r cyngor lleol a’r llywodraeth wedi chwarae mwy o ran.

Mae’r pecyn protest digidol hwn yn ennyn hyder pobl ac yn rhoi’r offer sydd eu hangen arnynt i helpu i wneud y newid. Yn cynnwys adnoddau digidol y gellir eu lawrlwytho, gellir eu rhannu ar-lein neu eu hargraffu i bobl eu rhoi yn eu ffenestri, er enghraifft. Mae yna ganllaw ar gyfer codi arian a sut i gysylltu â’ch AS lleol. Po fwyaf o bobl sy’n cymryd rhan, y mwyaf fydd yr effaith.
Gyda’n gilydd fe’n clywir, nid anghofir.
