As a maker I am inspired by historical events and the people around me, transforming this into unique illustrations applied to a diverse collection of surfaces such as ceramics and textiles.
My work aims to connect people through shared experiences, highlighting the importance of communication. My current practice explores the events that have occurred during Covid-19, to capture moments and the range of emotions felt at this time for future generations to remember and to learn from.
These events are encapsulated through simplistic illustrations, each one created with a minimalistic line, stripping away all personal identity by removing small details, colour and features to leave an image that anyone can relate to and form a personal connection with.
This is an important ethos behind the work, to provoke a viewer to use their own imagination to fill in the gaps, to complete the missing details, creating their own personalised experience. This work presents a contemporary take on historic commemorative ware, by using devises to make the events portrayed relevant and poignant to the lives of those who use them.
Fel gwneuthurwr, rwy’n cael fy ysbrydoli gan ddigwyddiadau hanesyddol a chan y bobl o fy nghwmpas, ac yn trosi’r hyn o beth i ddarluniau unigryw sy’n cael eu cymhwyso i gasgliad amrywiol o arwynebau fel cerameg a thecstilau.
Nod fy ngwaith yw cysylltu pobl trwy brofiadau a rennir, gan dynnu sylw at bwysigrwydd cyfathrebu. Mae fy arfer presennol yn ymchwilio i’r hyn sydd wedi digwydd yn ystod Covid-19, er mwyn cofnodi’r enydau a’r amrywiaeth o emosiynau a deimlir ar hyn o bryd er mwyn i genedlaethau’r dyfodol eu cofio a dysgu ohonynt.
Mae’r digwyddiadau hyn wedi’u crynhoi drwy ddarluniau syml, pob un wedi’i greu â llinell finimalaidd, gan ddileu’r holl hunaniaeth bersonol drwy gael gwared ar fanylder, lliw a nodweddion bychain i adael delwedd y gall unrhyw un uniaethu a ffurfio cysylltiad personol â hi.
Ethos pwysig y tu ôl i’r gwaith yw hwn, i ysgogi gwylwyr i ddefnyddio eu dychymyg eu hunain i lenwi’r bylchau, i gwblhau’r manylion coll, gan greu eu profiad personol eu hunain. Mae’r gwaith hwn yn cyflwyno dehongliad cyfoes o nwyddau coffáu hanesyddol, drwy ddefnyddio dyfeisiau i wneud y digwyddiadau a bortreadir yn deimladwy ac yn berthnasol i fywydau’r rhai sy’n eu defnyddio.
