My collection Out with the old, in with the new is inspired by my heritage being half Iraqi and Emirate. The collection is a key focus on my mother and fathers clothing trends back in the 90s eras. ‘Out with the old’ is previous trends of modest wear and ‘in with the new’ focuses on a new twist of modern trends of modest wear. Merging eastern garments inspired by my partners in the 90s era with new trendy empowering silhouettes and vibrant colours.

My dissertation is a critical exploration of modest wear fashion through religion and culture in the western and eastern countries. This felt very personal to me as living in the UK and visiting back home in the U.A.E which made me want to explore this topic further for more answers. I felt like there wasn’t as many trendy western clothes in U.A.E. so I wanted to focus on bringing it back by making an artefact that inspires women in the Middle East to try out new Western clothing while keeping it modest.

My goal after University is to have my own company in the U.K. and U.A.E that focuses on modest clothing and taps into the modest wear industry as it’s a huge market that is developing fast over these couple of years and soon to become big.

Ysbrydolwyd fy nghasgliad ‘Out with the old, in with the new’ gan fy nhreftadaeth gan fy mod yn hanner Iraci a hanner Emiraeth. Mae’r casgliad yn ffocws allweddol ar dueddiadau dillad fy mam a’m tadau yn ôl yn oes y 90au. Mae ‘Out with the old’ yn dueddiadau blaenorol o ddillad diymhongar ac mae ‘in with the new’ yn canolbwyntio ar dro newydd tueddiadau modern o ddillad diymhongar. Mae’r casgliad yn uno dillad dwyreiniol a ysbrydolwyd gan fy mhartneriaid yn oes y 90au gyda silwetau ffasiynol newydd sy’n grymuso a lliwiau bywiog.

Mae fy nhraethawd estynedig yn archwiliad beirniadol o ddillad ffasiwn diymhongar trwy grefydd a diwylliant yng ngwledydd y gorllewin a’r dwyrain. Roedd hyn yn teimlo’n bersonol iawn i mi gan mai byw yn y DU ac ymweld â’m cartref eto yn yr U.A.E a wnaeth i mi fod eisiau archwilio’r pwnc hwn ymhellach i gael mwy o atebion. Teimlwn nad oedd cymaint o ddillad ffasiynol y gorllewin yn U.A.E. felly roeddwn i eisiau canolbwyntio ar ddod â hynny yn ôl trwy wneud arteffact sy’n ysbrydoli menywod yn y Dwyrain Canol i roi cynnig ar ddillad newydd y Gorllewin wrth ei gadw’n ddiymhongar.

Fy nod ar ôl y Brifysgol yw cael fy nghwmni fy hun yn y DU ac yn U.A.E sy’n canolbwyntio ar ddillad diymhongar ac yn tapio i mewn i’r diwydiant dillad diymhongar gan ei bod yn farchnad enfawr sy’n datblygu’n gyflym dros yr ychydig flynyddoedd hyn ac yn fuan i ddod yn fawr.
