Jack Hussey

BA (Hons) Product Design

It is my driving principle to balance the values of social, economic and environmental affects product design can have. I believe that modern-day design needs to incorporate all these values and drive forwards the importance of true sustainability. As well as my excitement to see the development of an idea become reality and to achieve a well-desired outcome for clients, tackling design challenges along the way.

I apply this by using my strengths in critical thinking to analysis the market to produce the desired needs. This can be either working with clients or end-users achieved by using creative communication skills and knowledge within business and entrepreneurship to show alternative solutions to find a gap in the market with benefits to both clients and consumers.

I bring a critical voice to both group work and own independent work to produce the desired and needed design to the table, producing a product or system that is evaluated well within briefs to achieve a high standard of work. This is evident within my own work in group live client briefs such as PDR that we ended up winning and short-listed working with DS Smith to establish a sustainable system for their process of reclaiming cardboard.

Fy egwyddor ysgogol yw cydbwyso gwerthoedd yr effeithiau cymdeithasol, economaidd ac amgylcheddol y gall dylunio cynnyrch ei chael. Credaf fod angen i ddylunio modern ymgorffori’r holl werthoedd hyn a gyrru pwysigrwydd cynaladwyedd go iawn ymlaen. Yn ychwanegol at fy nghyffro wrth weld datblygiad syniad yn cael ei wireddu a chyflawni canlyniad dymunol ar gyfer cleientiaid, gan daclo heriau dylunio ar hyd y ffordd.

Rwy’n cymhwyso hyn trwy ddefnyddio fy nghryfderau meddwl beirniadol i ddadansoddi’r farchnad er mwyn cynhyrchu’r anghenion dymunol. Gall hyn fod naill ai trwy weithio gyda chleientiaid neu ddefnyddwyr terfynol, wedi’i gyflawni gan ddefnyddio sgiliau a gwybodaeth cyfathrebu creadigol o fewn busnes ac entrepreneuriaeth i ddangos datrysiadau amgen o ddod o hyd i fwlch yn y farchnad gyda buddiannau ar gyfer cleientiaid a chwsmeriaid fel ei gilydd.

Rwy’n dod â llais beirniadol i waith grŵp a fy ngwaith annibynnol fy hun i gynhyrchu’r dyluniad a ddymunir ac angenrheidiol, gan gynhyrchu cynnyrch neu system sy’n cael ei gwerthuso’n dda o fewn briffiau i gyflawni safon uchel o waith. Mae hyn yn amlwg o fewn fy ngwaith fy hun mewn briffiau byw i grwpiau cleientiaid megis PDR, y gwnaethom ei ennill, a DS Smith, y gwnaethom gyrraedd y rhestr fer i sefydlu system gynaliadwy ar gyfer eu proses o adennill cardbord.

Sample render of a flat pack cardboard bin used for collecting cardboard around university campuses. The bin is made out of 100% recycled cardboard with a unique flat pattern design to allow the user to transport the bin with ease and assemble on sight. This was taken forward as my field project.

Rendrad enghreifftiol o fin cardbord pecyn gwastad a ddefnyddir i gasglu cardbord o amgylch campysau prifysgolion. Mae’r bin wedi’i wneud 100% o gardbord wedi’i ailgylchu, â dyluniad patrwm gwastad unigryw i alluogi’r defnyddiwr i gludo’r bin yn hawdd a’i gydosod ar y safle. Aed ymlaen â hwn fel fy mhrosiect maes.

Stall setup on the day of selling a reusable calendar inspired by whiteboards. The user can simply rub off the marker pen and re-use again and again without having to replace the calendar each year. The project was focused on setting up and running our own brand and create a product to be sold around Christmas season.

Gosod stondin ar ddiwrnod gwerthu calendr y gellir ei ailddefnyddio, a ysbrydolwyd gan fyrddau gwyn. Yn syml, gall y defnyddiwr rwbio’r ysgrifen i ffwrdd a’i ailddefnyddio dro ar ôl tro heb orfod ailosod y calendr bob blwyddyn. Roedd y prosiect yn canolbwyntio ar sefydlu a rhedeg ein brand ein hunain a chreu cynnyrch i’w werthu adeg y Nadolig.

A digital drawing and render of my final major project. The wrist strap gives the wearer feedback on the correct positioning of their wrists in order to reduce damage caused by improper form while lifting weights.

Lluniad digidol a rendrad o’n cynnyrch mawr terfynol. Mae’r strap arddwrn yn rhoi adborth i’r gwisgwr ar osodiad cywir yr arddyrnau er mwyn lleihau’r niwed a achosir gan ystum amhriodol wrth godi pwysau.
