BA (Hons) Product Design

I believe that design, in principle, should entertain the balance of beautiful aesthetics and logistical function. Form can be just as important as function, under the right circumstances, which I believe is a viewpoint that is neglected in a predominantly engineering based profession, resulting in excellently functional products with a less than excellent appearance.
I approach my design methodology with the user and the aesthetics at the forefront of every decision, making sure that the relationship between user interaction, ergonomics and visual stimulation all work in harmony. My strengths lie in fast ideation and CAD; proficient in being able to get multiple ideas down quickly and being able to work efficiently in Solidworks, to realise sketched ideas in a 3-dimensional capacity. Digital sketching/ rendering is also a skill I have developed, helping clients envision what the end goal would look like, without involving the intricacies of CAD.

My work heavily revolves around making sure that a design is not only functional and innovative, but also visually stimulating. As a designer, I attempt to restore the idea of attractive design being as paramount as functional design. Coming from a BA standpoint, I think form can be overlooked and under-utilised; which is why with every design, I attempt to re-establish a visual and tactile connection between the user and the product. In doing so, I am trying to bring products into market that are beautifully functional, and not just attempting to satisfy the practical needs of the user at hand.

Rwyf yn credu y dylai dylunio, mewn egwyddor, ddangos cydbwysedd rhwng estheteg hyfryd a swyddogaeth resymegol. Gall ffurf fod lawn mor bwysig â swyddogaeth o dan yr amgylchiadau iawn sydd, rwy’n credu, yn safbwynt sy’n cael ei esgeuluso mewn proffesiwn sy’n beirianneg-seiliedig yn bennaf, a’r canlyniad yw cynhyrchion sy’n rhagorol yn ymarferol ond o ran eu golwg sy’n llai na gwych. Mae’r defnyddiwr a’r estheteg yn cael y lle blaen yn fy null dylunio innau, gan sicrhau bod y berthynas rhwng y rhyngweithio â’r defnyddiwr, yr ergonomeg a’r ysgogiad gweledol i gyd yn cydgordio. Mae syniadu cyflym a chynllunio drwy gymorth cyfrifiadur ymhlith fy nghryfderau; rwy’n hyddysg o ran bod yn gallu cael fy syniadau lluosog i lawr yn gyflym ac yn gallu gweithio’n effeithiol mewn SolidWorks, er mwyn i’r syniadau a fydd wedi’u braslunio gael gweld golau ddydd mewn 3-D. Mae rendro/braslunio digidol yn sgil rwyf wedi’i ddatblygu hefyd gan helpu cleientiaid i ddychmygu’r olwg derfynol ar bethau heb ddefnyddio cymhlethdodau cynllunio drwy gymorth cyfrifiadur.

Mae fy ngwaith yn troi’n gryf o gwmpas sicrhau bod dyluniad nid yn unig yn ymarferol ac yn newydd ond ei fod yn ysgogi’n weledol hefyd. Gan fy mod yn ddylunydd, byddaf yn ceisio adfer y syniad bod dylunio deniadol lawn mor bwysig â dylunio ymarferol. A minnau’n dod o safbwynt BA, rwy’n credu y gall ffurf gael ei diystyru a’i thanddefnyddio; dyna’r rheswm y byddaf yn ceisio ail-sefydlu cysylltiad gweledol a chyffyrddol rhwng y defnyddiwr a’r cynnyrch gyda phob dyluniad. Drwy wneud hynny, rwy’n ceisio dod â chynhyrchion i’r farchnad sy’n hyfryd ymarferol ac nid yn ceisio boddhau anghenion ymarferol defnyddiwr penodol yn unig.
