Forge
The work, ‘Forge’ is formed from research surrounding the forging and metal casting process. James’ work examines the relationship between many states of matter, from solid to liquid. By using liquid slips and slab building techniques he is able to bring a state of flux into what would ordinarily be a solid, strong form.
By embracing the firing technique of Raku, he is able to convey a sense of change both within the glaze and within the shifting forms without losing the sense of stature that such a strong form holds within it’s surroundings.
James aims to take the viewer on a journey, through the forms he has created, a metaphorical journey through the forging process, capturing the experience of how these artifacts were created, a shadow of their former glory, yet still elegant and beautiful.
