Cube Series

Jamie attempts to explore themes of form and function. His recent cube series looks at the use of common functional elements such as lids and spouts and experimenting with the use and placement of them. An item can be changed simply by its placement and its interaction with other elements.

Jamie primarily uses mould making and slip casting in his making, this allows him to create precise forms that can be made in multiple. He is interested in investigating functional vessels and elements and how they are interpreted by the viewer.

He hopes to make people think more about the objects they use every day. In the cube series, the pieces all use recognisable elements like tea pot handles and lids yet only a few are functional and even when they are, they do not work as you would expect. The spout may only have a small hole allowing only a small amount of liquid to drip down to the cup section, which is solid and non-functional. These Recognisable forms reinterpreted show that form and function and utility and futility are one and the same.
