Dementia
In recent years I have been exploring how to accurately depict my experience with Vascular Alzheimer’s. In 2010, my grandma – Christine Marshall, was diagnosed with dementia, a disease that affects the brain, specifically how you think, remember and communicate. I have explored many routes trying to portray this along the way. These routes include; different types of therapy, neurological patterns and behaviours, the family aspect, personal thoughts and fears, and the distortion of memories. These have all led to my current work about my personal fear of developing this disease and my distortion of family memories, working from photographs to create abstract paintings. My aim through all of this is to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and to come to terms with who this disease has taken from us.
