It is through the exorcism of the self, by presenting my private obsessions to the public, that I expose them as ridiculous and thus a source of solidarity rather than cause for isolation. Privacy, containment and shame are transfigured into connection with others, comfort with filling a space, and joy.

My work is an exploration of and attempt to understand the relationship between my body and the world around it. The aim of the piece is to manifest both the real and unreal experiences of my body, and the intensely magnified critical view that distorts my image of myself. Through this distorted lens, one lump becomes a heap of lumps- a roll multiplies itself into a cascading curtain of flesh. The piece weighs a total of 136lbs, deliberately chosen as my own weight.

The sickly sweet pastel colours are a deliberate reference to stereotypes of femininity, with the umbilical-like fabric still tethering my expression of self to the wall behind. Through this I hope to convey the slow forming of self-confidence in the face of external pressure to conform to standards of beauty.

Drwy fwrw allan yr hunan, drwy gyflwyno fy obsesiynau preifat i’r cyhoedd, rwyf yn eu hamlygu fel pethau hurt ac felly fel ffynhonnell o gydymddibyniad yn hytrach nag achos o arwahaniad. Caiff preifatrwydd, cyfyngiant a chywilydd eu newid yn gysylltiad ag eraill, cysur gyda llenwi gofod, a llawenydd.

Mae fy ngwaith yn archwiliad o’r gydberthynas rhwng fy nghorff a’r byd o’i amgylch ac ymgais i’w deall. Nod y darn yw amlygu profiadau real ac afreal fy nghorff, a’r farn feirniadol sydd wedi’i chwyddo’n sylweddol sy’n aflunio fy nelwedd ohonof i fy hun. Drwy’r lens afluniedig hon, bydd un lwmp yn datblygu i fod yn llu o lympiau – bydd rôl yn lluosogi ei hun yn llen byrlymog o gnawd. Mae’r darn yn pwyso 136 pwys i gyd, a ddewiswyd yn bwrpasol oherwydd fy mhwysau fy hun.

Mae’r lliwiau pastel melys yn cyfeirio’n bwrpasol at stereoteipiau o fenyweidd-dra, gyda’r ffabrig bogeiliol yn dal i rwymo fy mynegiant o’r hunan wrth y wal y tu ôl. Drwy hyn, rwy’n gobeithio cyfleu’r broses araf o ddatblygu hunanhyder yn wyneb pwysau allanol i gydymffurfio â safonau prydferthwch.

My artwork was initially inspired by the rave scene which is usually an intense environment of music, colour and lights. I decided to recreate the feelings that my experience evoked, with the use of illuminative acrylics and spray paints on canvas. As spray painting...

Our species has become increasingly disconnected from nature. I focus on landscapes of personal significance and/or landscapes that have been disrupted by industrial use. Materials from these sites (often rocks, muds, and bricks) are used through a process-orientated...

Non-linear narratives such as unreliable memories, leaky dreams and deja vu are a central reference within my practice. I address the structure of these forms of narrative using repetition, replication and iterations of time. My work is largely sculptural, using...

Exploring the fragmentation of memory through the physicality of found objects and the spoken word, my work has become an archive of my family history. Due to the archival nature of my work, I replicate ways of preserving my objects through the attentiveness of their...

In my current practice I am concerned with the objectivity and phenomenology of colour. Through using media such as light and coloured acetate, my present work is intentionally focused and uncluttered, allowing colour to be considered as a singularity without any...

With a love for colour my work addresses form and shape and the impact this has on a space. I am demonstrating how the use of bright colour can create maximum optical impact. I’m interested in pattern and repetition to create a visual aesthetic whilst whilst working...
