Social media plays a massive role in our lives, and whilst it can be an amazing resource, it can also be a hub for negativity – sometimes without us even knowing.

Heed is an in-app social media service that strives to be proactive in helping people maintain a positive state of mental health and wellbeing whilst using social media. The app works across all social media platforms, and intervenes when the algorithm detects the user has seen too much negative content at once, and could be damaging to their mental health and wellbeing (e.g. health and fitness influencers aren’t negative, but for a user with body image issues, their content could be triggering and have negative effects on the user’s mental health and wellbeing).

There are two stages of Heed. ‘Stage One’ notifies the user of their consumption, through a pop-up notification, and encourages them to be more mindful of it. ‘Stage Two’ withdraws them from popular social media apps completely, to Heed’s own safe online community. In this online space, users can stay connected and take a break from the negativity that fills their social media feeds on other platforms. The app is designed to guide users in being more mindful when it comes to social media consumption. It offers tips on proper self-care, online safety and noticing triggers in an attempt to help the user build a healthy and balanced relationship with social media, and how they let it influence their lives daily.

Mae cyfryngau cymdeithasol yn chwarae rôl enfawr yn ein bywydau ac er y gallant fod yn adnodd anhygoel gallant fod yn negyddol hefyd – a ninnau heb wybod hynny weithiau.

Mae Heed yn wasanaeth cyfryngau cymdeithasol o fewn yr ap sy’n ceisio bod yn rhagweithiol wrth helpu pobl i gynnal cyflwr iechyd a llesiant meddyliol cadarnhaol ar yr un pryd â defnyddio cyfryngau cymdeithasol. Mae’r ap yn gweithio ar draws yr holl lwyfannau cyfryngau cymdeithasol, ac yn ymyrryd pan fydd yr algorithm yn synhwyro bod y defnyddiwr wedi gweld gormod o gynnwys negyddol o fewn cyfnod byr a allai fod yn niweidiol i’w hiechyd a llesiant meddyliol (e.e. nid yw dylanwadwyr iechyd a ffitrwydd yn negyddol, ond gyda defnyddiwr sydd â phroblemau delwedd y corff, gallai eu cynnwys fod yn sbardunol a chael effaith negyddol ar iechyd a llesiant y defnyddiwr.

Mae dau gam i Heed. Mae ‘Cam Un’ yn hysbysu’r defnyddiwr am ei ddefnydd, trwy neidlen, ac yn annog nhw i fod yn ymwybodol ohono. Mae ‘Cam Dau’ yn tynnu nhw allan o apiau cyfryngau cymdeithasol boblogaidd yn gyfan gwbl, i gymuned ar-lein ddiogel Heed ei hun. Yn y gofod ar-lein hwn, gall defnyddwyr aros yn gysylltiedig a chymryd egwyl i ffwrdd o’r naws negyddol sy’n llenwi eu porthiannau cyfryngau cymdeithasol ar lwyfannau eraill. Mae’r ap wedi’i ddylunio i dywys defnyddwyr wrth fod yn fwy meddylgar o ran defnyddio cyfryngau cymdeithasol. Mae’n cynnig awgrymiadau ar hunanofal priodol, diogelwch ar-lein a sylwi ar sbardunau mewn ymgais i helpu’r defnyddiwr i adeiladu perthynas iach a chytbwys â chyfryngau cymdeithasol, a sut maent yn gadael iddo ddylanwadu ar eu bywydau bob dydd.
