Lauren O’Garra

BA (Hons) Artist Designer Maker

Perspective in Cobalt

Lauren O’Garra uses Traditional Chinese Blue and White Porcelain to inform her illustrations on ceramics which employ contemporary cylinder designs as vessels to carry her decorative brushwork.

The main materials she uses are earthenware, cobalt, enamel and a transparent glaze. The cylinders vary in size to create a wider range of surfaces for decoration, and to have a more functional appeal. The pieces are suitable as containers, but their main purpose is decorative.

Each pot is hand painted, adding a bespoke quality to her work. The Illustrations Lauren creates are reflective of how she is using traditional methods in a modern world. Her work hints at this idea through subtle imagery within the illustrations.
