BA (Hons) Fine Art

My work is inspired by Op-Art and Kinetic Art. I am particularly interested in perception and interaction and how I can bring this into 2D surfaces.

I create compositions and repeat patterns from lines, geometric shapes and block colour, this allows me to explore each process that I use in depth. Colour theory is a big part of my practice, as many optical effects can be achieved through colour.

Working digitally and through printmaking allows me to create intricate, repetitive designs that aim to push the limits of vision. Offsetting lines has become an important part of my work, as it allows me to overlay the same designs whilst keeping the layer below visible, giving me more room for experimentation with composition and optical effects.

I work very methodically, narrowing down each series or variation one by one, constantly evaluating so I can understand what is successful and why. This is reflected in each print and its name, which I use as an identification system and formula to create new prints.

Mae fy ngwaith wedi’i ysbrydoli gan gelfyddyd optegol a chelfyddyd ginetig. Mae gen i ddiddordeb arbennig mewn canfyddiad a rhyngweithio a sut y gallaf gyflwyno hyn i arwynebau 2D.

Rwy’n creu cyfansoddiadau ac yn ailadrodd patrymau o linellau, ffurfiau geometrig a lliw bloc, ac mae hynny’n caniatáu i mi archwilio’r holl brosesau rwy’n eu defnyddio yn fanwl. Mae theori lliw yn rhan sylweddol o fy ymarfer, gan fod llawer o effeithiau optegol yn gallu cael eu cyflawni drwy liw.

Mae gweithio’n ddigidol a thrwy greu printiau yn caniatáu i mi greu dyluniadau cymhleth, ailadroddus sy’n ceisio gwthio terfynau’r golwg. Mae ongli llinellau wedi dod yn rhan bwysig o fy ngwaith, gan ei fod yn caniatáu i mi droshaenu’r un dyluniadau ar yr un pryd â chadw’r haen islaw yn weladwy, gan roi mwy o le i mi arbrofi gyda chyfansoddiad ac effeithiau optegol.

Rwy’n gweithio’n drefnus iawn, gan grynhoi pob cyfres neu amrywiad bob yn un, gan werthuso’n gyson er mwyn deall beth sy’n gweithio a pham. Caiff hyn ei adlewyrchu ym mhob print ac yn enw pob print, sy’n cael eu defnyddio fel system adnabod ac fel fformiwla i greu printiau newydd.

My artwork was initially inspired by the rave scene which is usually an intense environment of music, colour and lights. I decided to recreate the feelings that my experience evoked, with the use of illuminative acrylics and spray paints on canvas. As spray painting...

Our species has become increasingly disconnected from nature. I focus on landscapes of personal significance and/or landscapes that have been disrupted by industrial use. Materials from these sites (often rocks, muds, and bricks) are used through a process-orientated...

Non-linear narratives such as unreliable memories, leaky dreams and deja vu are a central reference within my practice. I address the structure of these forms of narrative using repetition, replication and iterations of time. My work is largely sculptural, using...

Exploring the fragmentation of memory through the physicality of found objects and the spoken word, my work has become an archive of my family history. Due to the archival nature of my work, I replicate ways of preserving my objects through the attentiveness of their...

In my current practice I am concerned with the objectivity and phenomenology of colour. Through using media such as light and coloured acetate, my present work is intentionally focused and uncluttered, allowing colour to be considered as a singularity without any...

With a love for colour my work addresses form and shape and the impact this has on a space. I am demonstrating how the use of bright colour can create maximum optical impact. I’m interested in pattern and repetition to create a visual aesthetic whilst whilst working...
