My paintings are a celebration of beauty, strength and the vulnerability of human life. Large-scale canvas offers the viewer the experience that s/he is part of the picture. The Cypriot landscape surrounds my figures. The images of peasant life transcend revolutions both industrial and political. “My people” have survived wars, poverty and have become refugees in their own country, but feel safe outside in their fields and groves. The earth that gave them life is like a mother until the end.

Reflecting on time, history, and the sense of nostalgia, I concern myself with everyday events and scenes that may appear small but I take time to think about them and express these thoughts in an ongoing panoramic painting. It is not only about past events but also about current events in my life. It took me a year to complete this painting, therefore it also reflects my time at university, documenting thoughts and concerns while studying. This sort of reflection enables me to enjoy small everyday moments and transform them into art. I would like the viewers to take the opportunity and appreciate these moments too.

The piece is exhibited on a cylindrical structure so the viewer can only see a part of the painting at a glance. That presentation reveals the way I painted it, a section at the time and the rest rolled up. It symbolizes the acknowledgment of the present, the fading-out of the past and the ignorance of the future.

Mae fy mhaentiadau’n ddathliad o harddwch, cryfder a breuder bywyd dynol. Mae cynfas mawr yn cynnig y profiad i’r gwyliwr o fod yn rhan ohono. Mae tirwedd Cyprus yn amgylchynu fy ffigurau. Mae’r delweddau o fywyd gwerinwyr yn mynd y tu hwnt i chwyldroadau, diwydiannol a gwleidyddol fel ei gilydd. Mae “fy mhobl” wedi goroesi rhyfeloedd, tlodi ac wedi dod yn ffoaduriaid yn eu gwlad eu hunain, ond maen nhw’n teimlo’n ddiogel y tu allan yn eu caeau a’u coedlannau. Mae’r ddaear a roddodd fywyd iddyn nhw fel mam tan y diwedd.

Gan fyfyrio ar amser, hanes, a’r syniad o hiraeth, dwi’n ymdrin â digwyddiadau a golygfeydd bob dydd a all ymddangos yn fach ond dwi’n treulio amser yn meddwl amdanyn nhw a mynegi’r meddyliau hyn mewn paentiad panoramig parhaus. Mae’n ymwneud â digwyddiadau yn fy mywyd nawr yn ogystal â digwyddiadau yn y gorffennol. Fe wnes i dreulio blwyddyn yn cwblhau’r darlun hwn, felly mae’n adlewyrchu fy amser yn y brifysgol hefyd, gan gofnodi meddyliau a phryderon wrth astudio. Mae’r math hwn o fyfyrio yn fy ngalluogi i fwynhau eiliadau bach bob dydd a’u trawsnewid nhw’n gelf. Hoffwn i’r gwylwyr fanteisio ar y cyfle a gwerthfawrogi’r eiliadau hyn hefyd.

Mae’r darn yn cael ei arddangos ar strwythur silindrog fel mai dim ond rhan o’r paentiad mae’r gwyliwr yn gallu’i weld. Mae’r cyflwyniad hwnnw’n dangos y ffordd y bûm yn ei beintio, un rhan ar y tro, tra bod y gweddill wedi’i rolio o’r neilltu. Mae’n symbol o gydnabod y presennol, diflaniad y gorffennol ac anwybodaeth y dyfodol.
