Synaptic space
As practicing graffiti artist I have undertaken the task of integrating a set of symbols, the alphabet, into creative visual formation. I’m interested in the accessibility or inaccessibility of written and vocal word, in consciousness, communication and creativity.
Graffiti requires the artist to have a name to write, and the name is usually an amalgam of letters and numeric. Thus, twenty years ago I began to experiment with words.
Through the process I’ve been through, I’ve come to realise that my art is a collection of narratives. My work is about direct communication, and as a form of notation it serves to reshape reality. Using meditative techniques, the material is generated in the area where we move to understand things in our existence and let go. Ideas come and ideas fade, and what is left at the end is a rendering of what has been real. It’s ironic that a meditative method of working seems to actually generate so many ideas, a consequence of effort and transition.
My film and paintings articulate an exploration of inner and outer world, recording and a positing of reality. In connecting with Conscious creativity, Hip Hop Art, Fine Art and Outsider Art I’ve attempted to take up the roll of story teller. A consequence of trying to find inner peace, I found inner movement and a contemplative, creative state of mind.
