The Arc Arts Centre
The Design Studio brief given was to design an Arts Centre in the Cardiff Bay area which would demonstrate best practice in sustainable design and technological innovation while making maximum use of the site.
The design that has resulted both from the brief and site analysis, is a curvilinear form which contrasts with the primarily linear surrounding buildings in order to provide a visual contrast.
The structure makes use of design for deconstruction principles in order for materials to be re-used after the building reaches the end of its life.
Perforated cladding is used extensively throughout in order to provide a dappling lighting effect both internally during the day and to add to the vibrant Cardiff Bay skyline at night.
