This installation confronts the restrictions imposed by my upbringing as Catholic Irish, and how this continues to affect my life and the lives of other females in a country where religion still heavily influences the choices of a modern society.

There are 27, 417 pieces in this installation and each one represents a woman who has lost her life because she could not access safe abortion in the past 7 months globally. I have lived my entire life in fear of ending up in the fatal position of the women represented in this piece because the Catholic Church offers me no alternative. There is always the constant fear that one day I may be counted in this death toll. 27, 417 seeks to raise awareness of the negative effects that come with allowing religious institutions to have so much influence over a country and its people’s lives, and the repression and control of the female body in society.
