This collection of work will resemble the concept of personal perception of identity and the way society pushes certain views on the disability. The series of acrylic and oil paintings on A4 wood represent the life of Charlotte, who has down syndrome. This is a disability many people have been given uneducated information on and assume that the life fulfilled by the person will not be great or acceptable. From this I have decided to conclude an exhibition based on life of someone with this disability to show that is not the case at all.

These hyper realistic paintings are from photographs that help resemble her day to day life. She has no limitations and is very acceptable of who she is and does not care about societies views. This is where the issue lies, people form judgement about the idea of what down syndrome entices.

The exhibition showcased in this form highlights boldness and power. The simple layout allows an easy look. The amount of paintings encourages the public to take a closer look and see each piece as a whole or individual. This also structures the concepts around the paintings, engaging with the disability and the individual who has it. This opportunity is one many people may not have put themselves in and therefore, by embracing the work you can realize who you are is okay.

Charlotte is a person living with a disability who is happy and content with a great life.

Bydd y casgliad hwn o waith yn debyg i’r cysyniad o ganfyddiad personol o hunaniaeth, a’r modd y mae cymdeithas yn hybu rhai safbwyntiau ynghylch anabledd. Mae’r gyfres o baentiadau acrylig ac olew ar bren A4 yn cynrychioli bywyd Charlotte, sydd â syndrom Down. Mae hwn yn anabledd sy’n destun lledaenu llawer iawn o wybodaeth annysgedig, gyda phobl yn tybio na fydd bywyd Charlotte a’i thebyg yn wych neu’n dderbyniol. Dyna wnaeth i mi benderfynu cwblhau arddangosfa yn seiliedig ar fywyd rhywun â’r anabledd hwn i ddangos nad yw hynny’n wir o gwbl.

Daw’r paentiadau tra-realistig hyn o ffotograffau sy’n helpu i ymdebygu i’w bywyd o ddydd i ddydd. Does dim cyfyngiadau arni, mae’n dderbyniol iawn o bwy yw hi a dydy hi ddim yn poeni am farn cymdeithas. Dyma graidd y broblem: pobl yn ffurfio barn am yr hyn mae syndrom Down yn ei olygu.

Mae’r arddangosfa a ddangosir ar y ffurf hon yn tynnu sylw at hyfdra a phŵer. Mae’r cynllun syml yn ei gwneud yn hawdd edrych arni. Mae maint y paentiadau yn annog y cyhoedd i edrych yn agosach a gweld pob darn yn ei gyfanrwydd neu’n unigol. Mae hyn hefyd yn strwythuro’r cysyniadau ynghlwm wrth y paentiadau, gan ymgysylltu â’r anabledd a’r unigolyn anabl. Mae hwn yn gyfle na chafodd ei brofi gan lawer o bobl, a thrwy gofleidio’r gwaith, gallwch sylweddoli bod eich agwedd yn un iach.

Mae Charlotte yn berson sy’n byw gydag anabledd, ac mae’n hapus ac yn fodlon gyda’i bywyd gwych.

My artwork was initially inspired by the rave scene which is usually an intense environment of music, colour and lights. I decided to recreate the feelings that my experience evoked, with the use of illuminative acrylics and spray paints on canvas. As spray painting...

Our species has become increasingly disconnected from nature. I focus on landscapes of personal significance and/or landscapes that have been disrupted by industrial use. Materials from these sites (often rocks, muds, and bricks) are used through a process-orientated...

Exploring the fragmentation of memory through the physicality of found objects and the spoken word, my work has become an archive of my family history. Due to the archival nature of my work, I replicate ways of preserving my objects through the attentiveness of their...

With a love for colour my work addresses form and shape and the impact this has on a space. I am demonstrating how the use of bright colour can create maximum optical impact. I’m interested in pattern and repetition to create a visual aesthetic whilst whilst working...
