Shauna Myers

BA (Hons) Textiles

I am a Welsh surface pattern designer and enjoy working with vivid and bold colours. I am inspired by various aspects in my day-to-day life. A lot of my inspiration comes from the environment around me, whether that’s the architecture, patterns or simply people I surround myself with.

Artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Keith Haring and Josef Frank have consistently given me inspiration for this and projects I have done in the past. Whether it is their use of colour, concept or dedication to their art, their work keeps me inspired and wanting to create.

I like to work digitally and combine traditional methods; digital art allows me to be intricate with my designs or experiment with colour combinations. I originally started drawing patterns with a fine liner and paper, I still like to include this method as often as I can! Whereas processes such as screen printing, gives me time to work with different fabrics, experiment with textures and develop my own personal style further.

Rwy’n ddylunydd patrymau arwyneb Cymreig ac yn mwynhau gweithio gyda lliwiau llachar a beiddgar. Rwy’n cael fy ysbrydoli gan wahanol agweddau yn fy mywyd o ddydd i ddydd. Mae llawer o’m hysbrydoliaeth yn dod o’r amgylchedd o’m cwmpas, boed hynny’n bensaernïaeth, yn batrymau neu’r bobl rwy’n hoffi eu cael o’m cwmpas.

Mae artistiaid fel Yayoi Kusama, Keith Haring a Josef Frank wedi fy ysbrydoli’n gyson i wneud y prosiect hwn a phrosiectau eraill yn y gorffennol. Boed hynny’n ymwneud â’u defnydd o liw, cysyniad neu ymroddiad i’w celfyddyd, mae eu gwaith yn fy ysbrydoli’n gyson ac yn rhoi’r awydd i mi greu.

Rwy’n hoffi gweithio’n ddigidol a chyfuno dulliau traddodiadol; mae celf ddigidol yn rhoi cyfle i mi weithio’n gywrain gyda’m dyluniadau neu arbrofi gyda chyfuniadau o liwiau. Yn wreiddiol, dechreuais luniadu patrymau gyda phensel linellu fain a phapur, ac rwy’n dal i hoffi cynnwys y dull hwn mor aml ag y gallaf! Tra bod prosesau fel argraffu sgrin yn rhoi amser i mi weithio gyda gwahanol ffabrigau, arbrofi gyda gweadau a datblygu fy arddull bersonol ymhellach.
