Scarred/Sacred
‘Scarred/Sacred’ is an exploration of mixed cultural heritage and how it forms an integral part of who you are, even though it is not always visible from the surface. The various markings depict an abstraction of African tribal body painting and scarification, which are employed to emphasise identity and beauty. Playing with subtlety and contrast, control and freedom, all contained within the same form, the work echoes the way that our ancestry is physically embedded into our skin and how it can inform and transform the person you become.
