BA (Hons) Artist Designer Maker

Michaela Davidova

I am a multidisciplinary artist, photographer and maker. One thing which attracts me on art and design is turning the objects and their meaning around – making a new use for items that have been wasted, thinking about alternative solutions and possibilities for a better future. I believe it is important to connect art and science, understand the technologies and social needs but first of all to reconnect with nature.

My artworks are often driven by context and my areas of interest are the alternative photographic techniques, sustainability, environmental sculptures and installations, psychogeography and found objects. For my degree show, I prepared a body of work which is questioning the shared responsibility,
the waste society and our relationship to the environment and landscape. I am intrigued by the thingness of the photographic images and their memory. As a pinhole photographer and craftivist I tackle my concerns with the light-sensitive properties of the photographic paper and with the creative
engagements in the public realm.

I am a passionate traveller and a dreamer. I regularly take my bike and cycle long distance trips, not waiting until the world comes to me but going towards it. Sometimes confident, sometimes shy, but definitely with the enthusiasm, determination and love.

Dwi’n artist, ffotograffydd a gwneuthurwr amlddisgyblaethol. Un peth sy’n fy nenu gyda chelf a dylunio yw troi’r gwrthrychau a’u hystyr ar eu pen – gwneud defnydd newydd ar gyfer eitemau sydd wedi’u gwastraffu, meddwl am atebion a phosibiliadau amgen ar gyfer dyfodol gwell. Dwi’n credu bod cysylltu celf a gwyddoniaeth yn bwysig, deall y technolegau a’r anghenion cymdeithasol ond yn gyntaf oll ailgysylltu â natur.

Mae fy ngwaith celf yn cael ei sbarduno gan gyd-destun yn aml ac mae’r meysydd sydd o ddiddordeb i mi yn cynnwys technegau ffotograffig amgen, cynaliadwyedd, cerfluniau a gosodiadau amgylcheddol, seico-ddaearyddiaeth a gwrthrychau a ddarganfuwyd. Ar gyfer fy sioe radd, fe wnes i baratoi corff o waith sy’n cwestiynu’r cyfrifoldeb a rennir, y gymdeithas wastraff a’n perthynas â’r amgylchedd a’r dirwedd. Mae natur y delweddau ffotograffig fel pethau a’u cof yn destun chwilfrydedd i mi. Fel ffotograffydd twll pin a chrefftyddiwr dwi’n mynd i’r afael â’m pryderon gyda phriodweddau goleusensitif y papur ffotograffig a chyda’r cysylltiadau creadigol yn y byd cyhoeddus.

Dwi’n deithiwr brwd ac yn freuddwydiwr. Dwi’n mynd ar deithiau hir ar fy meic yn gyson, nid disgwyl nes bod y byd yn dod ataf ond yn mynd tuag ato. Weithiau’n hyderus, weithiau’n swil, ond gyda brwdfrydedd, penderfyniad a chariad heb os.
