BA (Hons) Artist Designer Maker

Clay is my canvas. I create visual compositions in sheet clay by distorting and disrupting the material to create a textural surface in which the patterns, shapes and colours can emerge and be refined. Informed by sketches from everyday life, I take inspiration from the world around me and my work is strongly informed by my passion for colour theory.

Using coloured glazes and underglaze pencils my work is a direct expression of the drawings that fill my sketch books. Overlaying a transparent white effect on my pieces, creates a range of reactions, at times obscuring and revealing colours and glazes beneath. Expressive mark making, and gestural abstract use of colour ensures each work is unique.

Using a dimensional canvas and disrupting the norms of what type of surface a painting can sit on allows me to experiment with how the objects can be presented. From wall hung pieces which roll and fall, into turned vessels which have a movement when placed on a surface.

Clai yw fy nghynfas. Rwy’n creu cyfansoddiadau gweledol mewn clai dalen drwy ystumio ac amharu ar y deunydd i greu arwyneb gweadol lle y gall patrymau, siapiau, a lliwiau ymddangos a chael eu mireinio. Wedi fy nylanwadau gan frasluniau o fywyd bob dydd, caf fy ysbrydoli gan y byd o’m cwmpas ac mae fy ngwaith yn cael ei lywio’n gryf gan fy angerdd am theori lliw.

Drwy ddefnyddio gwydredd lliw a phensiliau iswydredd mae fy ngwaith yn fynegiant uniongyrchol o’r lluniau sy’n llenwi fy llyfrau braslunio. Mae troshaenu effaith gwyn tryloyw ar fy narnau, yn creu ystod o adweithiau, gan guddio a datgelu lliwiau a gwydreddau islaw ar adegau. Mae gwneud marciau mynegiannol, a defnyddio lliw mewn modd haniaethol ystumiol yn sicrhau bod pob gwaith yn unigryw.

Mae defnyddio cynfas dimensiynol ac amharu ar normau’r math o arwyneb y gall paentiad eistedd arno’n fy ngalluogi i arbrofi â’r modd y gellir cyflwyno’r gwrthrychau. O ddarnau sy’n rholio ac yn disgyn y gellir eu gosod ar waliau, i lestri wedi’u troi sydd â symudiad wrth eu gosod ar arwyneb.
