My love for sharks and strong opinions on ‘The Shark Finning Trade’ is one of many reasons why I chose this for my FMP. I wanted to raise awareness by informing people on how much this trade has affected our oceans and the species itself. With little knowledge surrounding the subject, it was important to me to uncover the truth of this multi-billion trade and show people that it is happening all over the globe and not just in far eastern countries.

In order to do so, I set up a campaign called ‘Fighting For Fins’ which included an animation on how the trading works and what happens to the sharks during the process. I also produced some food packet designs as a way of raising awareness and making people think twice when buying produce whether this product contributed to shark finning. I also used mugs and posters to express information and raise awareness.

This project has pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me experiment more within my work and give a go to new things. It has made me look at the bigger picture more and not just one aspect of design.

Mae fy nghariad at siarcod a fy marnau cryfion ar ‘Y Farchnad Esgyll Siarcod’ yn un o lawer o resymau pam y dewisais hwn ar gyfer fy mhrosiect terfynol. Roeddwn eisiau codi ymwybyddiaeth trwy hysbysu pobl faint mae’r fasnach hon wedi effeithio ar ein cefnforoedd a’r rhywogaeth ei hun. Gan y gwyddys ychydig iawn am y pwnc, bu’n bwysig i mi ddatgelu gwirionedd y fasnach hon werth biliynau o bunnoedd ar draws y byd ac nid yng ngwledydd y dwyrain pell yn unig.

Er mwyn gwneud hyn, sefydlais ymgyrch o’r enw ‘Fighting For Fins’ a fu’n cynnwys amimeiddiad ar sut mae’r masnachu’n gweithio a beth sy’n digwydd i’r siarcod yn ystod y broses. Cynhyrchais rai dyluniadau pecynnu bwyd hefyd fel ffordd o godi ymwybyddiaeth a gwneud i bobl feddwl eto wrth brynu cynnyrch a yw’r cynnyrch hwnnw wedi cyfrannu at y farchnad esgyll siarcod. Defnyddiais fygiau a phosteri i fynegi gwybodaeth a chodi ymwybyddiaeth hefyd.

Mae’r prosiect hwn wedi fy ngwthio allan o fy mharth cysur a gwneud i mi arbrofi’n fwy o fewn fy ngwaith a rhoi cynnig ar bethau newydd. Mae wedi gwneud i mi edrych ar y darlun cyfan ac ni un agwedd yn unig ar y dyluniad.
