As a textile designer, I specialise in digital design processes that are influenced by nature and inspired by my own drawings. My collection ‘’Flawed Beauty’’ is based on Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese aesthetic which focuses on the appreciation of imperfections and impermanence.

Weed flowers are often ignored, therefore in my collection, I present them as beautiful patterns digitally designed originated from my drawings. Some of them are covered with another layer of fabric with laser-cut and burned holes, so it portrays an ageing fabric and revealing a hidden beauty underneath. Within the fabric samples there can be found weed flowers that are commonly undesirable in our gardens, for instance, green alkanet, thistle, umbellate hawkweed, tansy and more.

The fabric samples have been embellished with resin beads which also has been made reflecting the Wabi-Sabi idea. The flowers trapped inside have been previously dried, then partly covered with resin so it doesn’t create a perfect round bead but the irregular shape with a bit of flower sticking out of it representing the impermanence.

The combination of digitally printed fabrics on silk and cotton satin and partly hand-manipulated linen fabric will be aimed for middle to high market used for fashion. Basing the work on Wabi-Sabi concept I wanted to convey the message to appreciate the flawed beauty.

Fel dylunydd tecstilau, rwy’n arbenigo mewn prosesau dylunio digidol y dylanwadir arnynt gan natur ac a ysbrydolir gan fy narluniadau fy hun. Mae fy nghasgliad “Flawed Beauty” yn seiliedig ar Wabi-Sabi, esthetig Japaneaidd sy’n canolbwyntio ar werthfawrogi amherffeithrwydd ac amharhauster.

Anwybyddir blodau chwyn yn aml, ac felly rwy’n cyflwyno nhw yn fy nghasgliad fel patrymau prydferth a ddylunnir yn ddigidol sy’n deillio o fy narluniadau. Mae rhai ohonynt wedi eu gorchuddio â haenen arall o ffabrig sydd â thyllau a dorrir ac a losgir gan laser, fel ei fod yn portreadu ffabrig sy’n heneiddio ac yn datgelu prydferthwch cuddiedig oddi tani. O fewn y samplau ffabrig gellir gweld blodau chwyn sydd yn aml yn ddieisiau yn ein gerddi, er enghraifft tafod yr ych anwyw, ysgall, heboglys wmbelog, tansi a mwy.

Mae’r samplau ffabrig wedi eu haddurno â gleiniau resin a wnaed hefyd gan adlewyrchu’r delfryd Wabi-Sabi. Mae’r blodau sydd wedi eu dal ar y tu mewn wedi eu sychu’n flaenorol wedyn eu gorchuddio’n rhannol â resin fel nad yw’n creu glain crwn perffaith ond y siâp afreolaidd gyda darn bach o’r blodyn yn gwthio allan gan gynrychioli’r amharhauster.

Anelir y cyfuniad o ffabrigau a argraffir yn ddigidol ar sidan a satin cotwm a ffabrig lliain a drinnir yn rhannol â llaw at y farchnad ffasiwn ganolig i uchel. Trwy seilio’r gwaith ar y cysyniad Wabi-Sabi roeddwn am gyfleu neges o werthfawrogi prydferthwch amherffaith.
