Chris Parker

BSc (Hons) Product Design

I am Chris Parker; A sustainable orientated product designer who thrives off the conceptualizing stages, physical development stages, and final production and manufacturing stages of the product design process. The main goals that I aim to achieve as a designer in the 21st century reflect throughout all my current design work; these being key engineering design innovations, entrepreneurship ‘products’ and the sustainability that surrounds my products throughout their intended product life-cycle. All projects that I have worked on aim to reflect the circular economy and the ethical consumer markets, this meaning all aspects of my projects have been designed in such a way that considers all processes from the initial manufacture stages down to the end disposal and repair of such a product; this motivates the sustainability throughout my design work and implements my morals around sustainability into interesting, new and unique ways to produce ‘sell-able’ end products.

Chris Parker ydw i; dylunydd cynnyrch â phwyslais cynaliadwy sy’n ffynnu ar gamau cysyniadu, camau datblygu ffisegol, a chamau cynhyrchu a gweithgynhyrchu terfynol y broses o ddylunio cynnyrch. Mae fy holl waith dylunio presennol yn adlewyrchu’r prif nodau rwy’n ceisio eu cyflawni fel dylunydd yn yr unfed ganrif ar hugain; sef arloesedd o ran dylunio peirianneg allweddol, ‘cynhyrchion’ mentergarwch a’r elfennau cynaliadwy sy’n amgylchynu fy nghynhyrchion gydol eu cylch bywyd arfaethedig. Mae’r holl brosiectau y bûm yn gweithio arnynt yn ceisio adlewyrchu’r economi gylchol a’r marchnadoedd defnyddwyr moesegol, sy’n golygu bod pob agwedd ar fy mhrosiectau wedi’u cynllunio mewn ffordd sy’n ystyried yr holl brosesau – o’r camau cynhyrchu cychwynnol hyd at waredu a thrwsio cynnyrch o’r fath; sy’n sbarduno cynaliadwyedd yn fy ngwaith dylunio drwyddo draw ac yn gweithredu fy moesau o ran cynaliadwyedd, er mwyn creu ffyrdd newydd ac unigryw o gynhyrchu cynhyrchion terfynol ‘gwerthadwy’.

Here shows some initial ideation sketches for my lighting project I’ve completed, named, fivelights. The concept was to create an ethically sourced and batch manufactured light which could be sold locally and online; it uses five simple components that ‘snap’ together with the use of magnets and is produced from high quality woods and recycled HDPE plastics to appeal highly to the ethical consumer market.

Dyma ddangos rhai brasluniau cychwynnol o syniadau ar gyfer y prosiect goleuo rwyf wedi’i gwblhau, o’r enw fivelights. Y cysyniad oedd creu goleuadau o ffynonellau moesegol y gellir eu swp-weithgynhyrchu, a gellir eu gwerthu’n lleol ac ar-lein; maen nhw’n defnyddio pum cydran syml sy’n ‘snapio’ at ei gilydd gan ddefnyddio magnetau, ac maen nhw wedi’u cynhyrchu o bren o ansawdd uchel a phlastigau HDPE wedi’u hailgylchu, â’r nod o apelio’n fawr at y farchnad defnyddwyr moesegol.

For the same lighting project, I undertook an extensive iterative development process, the above picture demonstrates the development of three of the five components; this process was accelerated using a 3d printer, CNC machines and computer aided design software’s such as Keyshot and Solidworks. The result of this process was one by one, it tackled a problem with the design and produced a new component that solved any issues with the previous version of the component.

Ar gyfer yr un prosiect goleuo, ymgymerais â phroses ddatblygu ailadroddol helaeth, ac mae’r llun uchod yn dangos datblygiad tair o’r pum cydran; cyflymwyd y broses hon gan ddefnyddio argraffydd 3d, peiriannau melino dan reolaeth cyfrifiadur, a meddalwedd dylunio gyda chymorth cyfrifiadur fel Keyshot a Solidworks. O ganlyniad i’r broses hon, o gam i gam, aed i’r afael â phroblem â’r dyluniad a chynhyrchwyd cydran newydd a ddatrysodd unrhyw broblemau â fersiwn flaenorol y gydran.

This image shows a fully functioning prototype made from blue and white recycled HDPE and upcycled mahogany wood; along side this there is also a ‘material, colour and finish’ board which was used to visually represent what possible materials, colour schemes and end finishes could potentially be used moving on with the project. This image was the result of my initial ideas for my lighting project and was the stem for the whole concept of fivelights;

‘five components, five ways its greener and five simple steps to buying.’

Mae’r ddelwedd hon yn dangos prototeip gweithredol llawn a wnaed o HDPE glas a gwyn wedi’i ailgylchu a phren mahogani wedi’i uwchgylchu; ochr yn ochr â hyn, mae bwrdd ‘deunyddiau, lliwiau a gorffeniadau’ a ddefnyddiwyd i gynrychioli’n weledol y deunyddiau, y cynlluniau lliwiau a’r gorffeniadau posibl y gellid eu defnyddio wrth symud ymlaen â’r prosiect. Y ddelwedd hon yw canlyniad fy syniadau cychwynnol ar gyfer fy mhrosiect goleuo, a’r sail ar gyfer yr holl gysyniad o fivelights;

‘pum cydran, pum ffordd y mae’n wyrddach a phum cam syml at brynu.’

Aside from my lighting project I wanted to show you some of my professional practice assignment; This was a process of branding ourselves in a unique and memorable way from which we could run throughout all our design work from booklets to portfolios and digital design work. This project was also part of our live job application and you can see my CV, cover letter and Business cards all of which was forwarded to my future employer as an aim to stand out and present my brand, cparkerdesign.

Ar wahân i’m prosiect goleuo, roeddwn eisiau dangos i chi rhywfaint o’m haseiniad ymarfer proffesiynol; roedd hon yn broses o frandio ein hunain mewn ffordd unigryw a chofiadwy ar gyfer ein holl waith dylunio, o lyfrynnau i bortffolios a gwaith dylunio digidol. Roedd y prosiect hwn hefyd yn rhan o’n cais ar gyfer swydd fyw, a gallwch weld fy CV, llythyr eglurhaol a chardiau Busnes a anfonwyd at fy narpar gyflogwr, â’r nod o sefyll allan a chyflwyno fy mrand, sef cparkerdesign.
