Fiona Broderick

BA (Hons) Illustration

Fiona is a Bristol and Cardiff based illustrator who works with narrative concepts and responsive subject matter to explore various social and personal themes. Her work sets out to explore themes of identity, mental health, inequality and representation and presents this subject matter in a variety of ways, such as through narrative expression, character design and image based sequences. She also utilises simple animation in certain projects to elevate her images in a subtle but noticeable way. Even when exploring personal topics such as mental health and identity, the format of the work and the subject matter makes what she creates accessible, as well as relatable to a wide audience of people from a variety of demographics. It is important to her that as a creator, what she makes is led by emotion to a certain extent, and if that emotional aspect is able to make a connection between what she has made and the audience that views it, her work has accomplished what it has set out to do.

Darlunydd o Fryste a Chaerdydd yw Fiona, sy’n gweithio gyda chysyniadau naratif a phwnc ymatebol i archwilio themâu cymdeithasol a phersonol amrywiol. Yn ei gwaith mae’n archwilio themâu hunaniaeth, iechyd meddwl, anghydraddoldeb a chynrychiolaeth ac yn cyflwyno’r pynciau yma mewn amryw o ffyrdd, fel mynegiant naratif, dylunio cymeriadau a dilyniannau sy’n seiliedig ar ddelweddau. Mae hi hefyd yn defnyddio animeiddiad syml mewn rhai prosiectau i ddyrchafu ei delweddau mewn ffordd gynnil ond amlwg. Hyd yn oed wrth archwilio pynciau personol fel iechyd meddwl a hunaniaeth, mae fformat a phwnc y gwaith yn golygu bod yr hyn mae’n ei greu yn hygyrch, yn ogystal â’r ffaith bod cynulleidfa eang o amrywiaeth o gefndiroedd yn gallu uniaethu ag ef. Mae’n bwysig iddi hi, fel crëwr, fod yr hyn mae’n ei wneud yn cael ei arwain gan emosiwn i raddau, ac os oes modd i’r agwedd emosiynol yna greu cysylltiad rhwng yr hyn mae wedi’i greu a’r gynulleidfa sy’n ei weld, mae ei gwaith wedi llwyddo i gyflawni’r hyn roedd wedi bwriadu ei wneud.
