Isabelle Sigournay

BA (Hons) Textiles

I am a textile designer with a love of print, colour, and the fusion of hand painted and digital design elements. I believe that textiles can impact our everyday lives to enhance spaces in a positive way.

This surface pattern collection titled ‘Tropic Impressions’ has been designed for the interior and hospitality market. Filled with bold colours to create a sophisticated style, motifs are inspired by tropical flora and fauna from the Botanical Garden at Roath Park, Cardiff. I have focused on pattern and texture from different species and creating marks and drawings using a combination of ink and watercolour to illustrate this. Incorporating washes of ink and watercolour to communicate fluidity, creating a rich surface quality.

The connection made between design and the user is a key focus. The way the viewer observes and reacts to surface patterns is at the core of my design process and ultimately the final creation.

Rwy’n ddylunydd tecstilau ac wrth fy modd gyda phrint, lliw, ac ymasiad elfennau wedi’u peintio â llaw a dylunio digidol. Rwy’n credu y gall tecstilau effeithio ar ein bywydau bob dydd i wella lleoedd mewn ffordd gadarnhaol.

Mae’r casgliad o batrymau arwyneb hwn o’r enw ‘Tropic Impressions’ wedi’i ddylunio ar gyfer y farchnad nwyddau cartref a lletygarwch. Mae’n llawn lliwiau beiddgar i greu arddull soffistigedig, ac mae’r motiffau wedi’u hysbrydoli gan fflora a ffawna trofannol yn yr Ardd Fotaneg ym Mharc y Rhath, Caerdydd. Rydw i wedi canolbwyntio ar batrwm a gwead gwahanol rywogaethau a chreu marciau a lluniadau gan ddefnyddio cyfuniad o inc a dyfrlliw i ddangos hyn. Mae golchiadau o inc a dyfrlliw wedi’u hymgorffori i gyfathrebu hylifedd, gan greu ansawdd cyfoethog ar yr arwyneb.

Mae’r cysylltiad a wneir rhwng dylunio a’r defnyddiwr yn ffocws allweddol. Mae’r ffordd y mae’r gwyliwr yn arsylwi ac yn ymateb i batrymau arwyneb wrth wraidd fy mhroses ddylunio a’r greadigaeth derfynol yn y pen draw.
