BSc (Hons) Product Design

I have always had a passion for creating, from a young age I enjoyed making wooden boats, folding origami and my favourite subjects in school were always art and design technology. Product design was an obvious choice when looking at courses for university as it applied both my creative and practical side.

Since beginning university, I have honed my ability to create attractive products and have become a well-rounded designer, offering many skills such as innovative ideating, logical idea development and a perceptive and proactive attitude towards product and system improvement; with my strengths being problem solving and CAD. I have also developed a sustainability centred approach to designing as it has become impossible to ignore the impact the product market has on the environment.

My tech report project was centred around creating customisable, environmentally friendly surf shoes, this project featured a whole system to ensure it had a positive impact on the environment as just creating a product to manufacture is not enough. These standards were upheld through the use of a sustainability checklist which I created after rigorous research and has been used in some of my other projects also.

My other big project this year was for the RSA competition, this project centred around transforming unnatural pine forestry plantations into native deciduous forests in a feasible way to benefit wildlife, local communities and the eco system.

I look forward to applying my skills to future projects and gaining more experience in creative and practical fields.

Rwyf bob amser wedi bod yn angerddol am greu, o oedran ifanc roeddwn i wedi mwynhau gwneud cychod pren, plygu origami a’m hoff bynciau yn yr ysgol bob amser oedd technoleg celf a dylunio. Roedd dylunio cynnyrch yn ddewis amlwg wrth edrych ar gyrsiau ar gyfer prifysgol gan ei fod yn cymhwyso fy ochr greadigol ac ymarferol.

Ers dechrau yn y brifysgol, rwyf wedi mireinio fy ngallu i greu cynhyrchion deniadol ac wedi dod yn ddylunydd cyflawn, gan gynnig llawer o sgiliau fel delfryd arloesol, datblygu syniadau rhesymegol ac agwedd graff a rhagweithiol tuag at wella cynnyrch a system; fy nghryfderau yw datrys problemau a CAD. Rwyf hefyd wedi datblygu dull dylunio sy’n canolbwyntio ar gynaliadwyedd gan ei bod wedi dod yn amhosibl anwybyddu’r effaith y mae’r farchnad cynnyrch yn ei chael ar yr amgylchedd.

Roedd fy mhrosiect adroddiad technoleg yn canolbwyntio ar greu esgidiau syrffio addasadwy, ecogyfeillgar. Roedd y prosiect hwn yn cynnwys system gyfan i sicrhau ei fod yn cael effaith gadarnhaol ar yr amgylchedd gan nad yw creu cynnyrch i’w weithgynhyrchu yn unig yn ddigonol. Cadarnhawyd y safonau hyn trwy ddefnyddio rhestr wirio cynaliadwyedd a greais ar ôl ymchwil trwyadl ac a ddefnyddiwyd mewn rhai o’m prosiectau eraill hefyd.

Roedd fy mhrosiect mawr arall eleni ar gyfer cystadleuaeth yr RSA, roedd y prosiect hwn yn canolbwyntio ar drawsnewid planhigfeydd coedwigaeth pinwydd annaturiol yn goedwigoedd collddail brodorol mewn ffordd ddichonadwy er budd bywyd gwyllt, cymunedau lleol a’r eco-system.

Edrychaf ymlaen at gymhwyso fy sgiliau i brosiectau yn y dyfodol ac ennill mwy o brofiad mewn meysydd creadigol ac ymarferol.
