Student Voice

I am a final year student on the Artist: Designer, Maker course at Cardiff School of Art and Design. For my final major project, I have created digitally interactive textiles in relation to Covid-19. I am focussing on the experiences of students during this past year. Throughout this year of change it has become apparent that students have been detached from society by society and I wanted to be able to share our thoughts and feelings on the pandemic through this project. My work is politically driven and topical, I have a strong focus on material, process, and sustainability in the way that I work. I have only used repurposed fabrics, thread, and scraps of vinyl to create my masks and bust. I am an artist/craftsperson that draws ideas from people and situations, I enjoy using my work to tell a story and give a voice to those that may otherwise not have the option. I have been strongly influenced by those around me and the opinions they hold, I retain information from conversation that fuels the concepts behind my work.

Rwy’n fyfyriwr blwyddyn olaf ar y cwrs Artist: Dylunydd, Crëwr yn Ysgol Celf a Dylunio Caerdydd. Ar gyfer fy mhrif brosiect olaf, rwyf wedi creu tecstilau digidol rhyngweithiol mewn perthynas â Covid-19. Rwy’n canolbwyntio ar brofiadau myfyrwyr yn ystod y flwyddyn ddiwethaf. Trwy gydol y flwyddyn hon o newid mae wedi dod yn amlwg bod myfyrwyr wedi cael eu datgysylltu o gymdeithas gan gymdeithas ac roeddwn am allu rhannu ein meddyliau a’n teimladau ar y pandemig drwy’r prosiect hwn. Mae fy ngwaith wedi’i symbylu gan wleidyddiaeth a materion cyfoes, mae gennyf ffocws cryf ar ddeunydd, proses a chynaladwyedd yn y ffordd yr wyf yn gweithio. Yn ogystal â defnyddio ffabrigau, edafedd a sgrapiau finyl wedi’u hailbwrpasu i greu fy masgiau a fy mhenddelw. Rwy’n artist/crefftwr sy’n cael syniadau gan bobl a sefyllfaoedd, rwy’n mwynhau defnyddio fy ngwaith i adrodd stori a rhoi llais i’r rhai nad oes ganddynt yr opsiwn hwnnw fel arall. Mae’r rhai o fy nghwmpas a’r farn sydd ganddynt wedi dylanwadu’n gryf arnaf. Rwy’n defnyddio gwybodaeth o sgyrsiau a nhw sy’n symbylu’r cysyniadau y tu ôl i fy ngwaith.
