A project featuring the GUNK!, an illustrated band presented here in the form of a music video with supporting CD and publications. The aim of the project is to empower young people both as a form of entertainment and as a project which allows them to use creativity to say what they want to say. Research to inform the characters of the GUNK! was conducted as an all day illustrative and text based workshop to help young people explore what aspects make up their identities. I hope to register the project as a charity and apply for funding in the future. Facilitated workshops will lead to pairings of young bands and musicians with young artists and designers to work together to reinvent the GUNK! in their own ways and promote their individual aspirations.

My work more widely aims to address issues that are often difficult to discuss or taboo. Just like we are socially sanctioned from letting the snot drip from our noses, we are expected to contain many of the issues that human beings so commonly face. I believe that illustration can address many of these issues through kindness, humour and education. Similarly music can unite people through common experiences and emotions. This is why my projects often fuse music and illustration, whilst always being designed to combine social engagement with entertainment. I want to help us learn about each other so we can free some of the gunk we so often keep inside.

Prosiect sy’n rhoi sylw i’r GUNK!, band darluniadol a gyflwynir yma ar ffurf fideo cerddoriaeth gyda CD a chyhoeddiadau ategol. Nod y prosiect yw grymuso pobl ifanc fel math o adloniant ac fel prosiect sy’n eu galluogi i ddefnyddio creadigrwydd er mwyn dweud yr hyn maent am ei ddweud. Gwnaed gwaith ymchwil i greu cymeriadau’r GUNK! fel gweithdy darlunio a thestun undydd er mwyn helpu pobl ifanc i archwilio pa agweddau sy’n ffurfio eu hunaniaeth. Rwy’n gobeithio cofrestru’r prosiect fel elusen a gwneud cais am gyllid yn y dyfodol. Bydd gweithdai wedi’u hwyluso yn arwain at broses o baru bandiau a cherddorion ifanc ag artistiaid a dylunwyr ifanc i gydweithio er mwyn ail-greu’r GUNK! yn eu ffyrdd eu hunain a hyrwyddo eu dyheadau unigol.

Nodau ehangach fy ngwaith yw mynd i’r afael â’r materion y mae’n anodd eu trafod neu sy’n tabŵ yn aml. Yn union fel y cawsom ein dysgu i beidio â gadael i’n trwynau ddiferu, mae disgwyl i ni gadw llawer o’r problemau y mae bodau dynol yn eu hwynebu mor aml. Credaf y gall darluniadau fynd i’r afael â llawer o’r problemau hyn drwy garedigrwydd, hiwmor ac addysg.
