BSc (Hons) Product Design

My design philosophy is that design creates culture, culture shapes values, and values determine the future; I believe we as designers are the pioneers at the forefront of shaping what the future beholds. I am a creative and innovative graduate of Bsc Product Design at Cardiff Metropolitan University looking to embark on a career within a forward thinking, influential company, with whom I can continue to learn and build on my skills post-graduation. I am a passionate, resilient, enthusiastic and hard-working individual, who is very capable of working independently and excelling within a team and as a leader. Design impacts our everyday lives, which is why I strive for the absolute best; this is proven by my accolades and successes during my course at Cardiff Metropolitan University. I manifest to excel in all areas of the design and business world every morning. All design projects I have been involved with I have showcased a polished skillset and critical insight throughout the iterative design process. I understand the importance and pivotal role of design in the modern society, and how consumer desires are always changing. Throughout my university years I have gained a wealth of client experience and professional practise as well as developing my skillset and knowledge, which I am eager to use in my transition into the business world.

F’athroniaeth dylunio yw bod dylunio yn creu diwylliant, bod diwylliant yn llywio gwerthoedd, a bod gwerthoedd yn pennu’r dyfodol; rwy’n credu mai ni, fel dylunwyr, yw’r arloeswyr sydd ar flaen y gad o ran llywio beth sydd gan y dyfodol i’w gynnig. Rwy’n fyfyriwr graddedig creadigol ac arloesol Dylunio Cynnyrch BSc ym Mhrifysgol Metropolitan Caerdydd sydd am gychwyn ar yrfa mewn cwmni blaengar a dylanwadol, lle gallaf barhau i ddysgu ac adeiladu ar fy sgiliau ar ôl graddio. Rwy’n unigolyn angerddol, gwydn, brwdfrydig a diwyd, sydd yn bendant yn gallu gweithio’n annibynnol a rhagori o fewn tîm ac fel arweinydd. Mae dylunio yn effeithio ar ein bywydau bob dydd, a dyna pam yr wyf yn ymdrechu i sicrhau’r gorau posibl; mae f’anrhydeddau a’m llwyddiannau yn ystod fy nghwrs ym Mhrifysgol Metropolitan Caerdydd yn profi hyn. Rwy’n datgan bob bore y byddaf yn rhagori yn holl feysydd y byd dylunio a busnes. Yn yr holl brosiectau dylunio rwyf wedi bod yn gysylltiedig â nhw, rwyf wedi arddangos set sgiliau caboledig a mewnwelediad beirniadol trwy gydol y broses ddylunio ailadroddus. Rwy’n deall pwysigrwydd a rôl ganolog dylunio yn y gymdeithas fodern, a’r modd y mae dymuniadau defnyddwyr yn newid o hyd. Trwy gydol fy mlynyddoedd yn y brifysgol, cefais gyfoeth o brofiad cleientiaid ac ymarfer proffesiynol yn ogystal â datblygu fy set sgiliau a’m gwybodaeth, ac rwy’n awyddus i ddefnyddio’r rheiny wrth i mi drosglwyddo i’r byd busnes.

This was the outcome of my Bsc Dissertation which achieved me a first. I designed a GPS tracking device with fall detection and cellular communication for people who live with dementia to improve overall quality of life and reduce cited anxiety from carer’s and family. I also made an app which works collaboratively with the device to provide alerts and live updates on smartphones.

Dyma oedd canlyniad fy Nhraethawd Hir BSc y cefais radd dosbarth cyntaf amdano. Dyluniais ddyfais olrhain GPS gyda sy’n gallu lleoli cwympiadau ac yn cynnwys cyfathrebu cellog i bobl sy’n byw gyda dementia i wella ansawdd bywyd yn gyffredinol a lleihau gorbryder y soniwyd amdano gan ofalwyr a theulu. Hefyd, gwneuthum ap sy’n gweithio ar y cyd â’r ddyfais i ddarparu rhybuddion a diweddariadau byw ar ffonau clyfar.

Nurdles present a huge ecological problem yet there is very little design to help combat this. After experimentation I discovered water was the most efficient technique at separating nurdles from sand and created a pop-up, portable, inexpensive device which produces a 98.6% yield. There is currently no product on the market as effective.

Mae peledi plastig yn broblem ecolegol anferthol, ac eto nid oes fawr ddim dylunio i helpu i fynd i’r afael â hyn. Ar ôl arbrofi, canfyddais mai dŵr oedd y dechneg fwyaf effeithlon i wahanu peledi plastig o dywod, a chreais ddyfais wib, gludadwy a rhad sy’n esgor ar gynhyrchiant o 98.6%. Nid oes unrhyw gynnyrch mor effeithiol ar y farchnad ar hyn o bryd

Co- Lab is centred on Collaboration between small groups of workers/learners, Co-Lab enhances the experiences of people working together. It’s highly modular and adjustable to suit a number of modalities and abilities. This design won me and my design partner Jake Round the W2W competition brief after attending the awards ceremony in Dublin. We were up against heavy competition from other university students as well as Design Consultancies.

Mae Co-Lab yn canolbwyntio ar Gydweithrediad rhwng grwpiau bach o weithwyr/dysgwyr. Mae Co-Lab yn gwella profiadau pobl sy’n gweithio gyda’i gilydd. Mae’n fodwlar iawn a gellir ei addasu at nifer o foddolderau a galluoedd. Fe wnaeth y dyluniad hwn ennill briff cystadleuaeth W2W i mi a’m partner dylunio Jake Round ar ôl mynychu’r seremoni wobrau yn Nulyn. Roedd cystadleuaeth frwd yn ein herbyn gan fyfyrwyr prifysgol eraill, yn ogystal ag Ymgyngoriaethau Dylunio.

After winning the initial 24 hour design challenge I continued this brief for my field submission. Our product incorporates revolutionary FES technology to help user’s with foot drop ride with ease. It achieves this by making use of an IMU sensor, which detects angular motion and determines whether the cycle stage is in the recovery phase or power phase. This data then is transferred to the user’s FES which stimulates the correct muscle group for each phase.

Ar ôl ennill yr her ddylunio 24 awr gychwynnol, fe wnes i barhau â’r briff hwn ar gyfer fy nghyflwyniad maes. Mae ein cynnyrch yn ymgorffori technoleg FES chwyldroadol i helpu defnyddwyr gyda reidiau gollwng troed yn rhwydd. Mae’n cyflawni hyn drwy ddefnyddio synhwyrydd IMU, sy’n canfod symudiad onglog ac yn pennu p’un a yw’r cam beicio yn y cyfnod adfer neu’r cyfnod pweru. Caiff y data ei drosglwyddo i FES y defnyddiwr wedyn, sy’n ysgogi’r grŵp cyhyrau cywir ar gyfer pob cam.
