The work here is based off of observations of the birds in Roath Park, Cardiff. The birds there are so used to people that they engage in behaviours you wouldn’t otherwise see right in front of people walking through the park. My practise is based in observational drawing. I am very interested in animal behaviour, specifically behaviour they engage in with each other and less in human-animal interactions. My preferred working method is to go out into the world and observe animals and then bring that imagery back to the studio make more finished illustrations.

I started this project to encourage people to think about the fact that there are animals living in our cities, engaging in complex, interesting behaviours right in front of us. People watch a lot of nature documentaries, or look at photos on the internet, the idea behind this work is to get people to think about the fact that the animals they are seeking out are living their lives right next to us. There is nature here, you just have to slow down enough to see it.

Mae’r gwaith yma yn seiliedig ar arsylwi’r adar ym Mharc y Rhath, Caerdydd. Mae’r adar yno wedi dod i arfer â phobl i’r fath raddau y maent yn ymddwyn mewn ffordd na fyddech yn ei gweld fel arall yn syth o flaen pobl sy’n cerdded trwy’r parc. Mae fy arfer yn seiliedig ar ddarlunio arsylwadol. Mae gennyf ddiddordeb mawr mewn ymddygiad anifeiliaid, yn benodol ymddygiad y maent yn ymwneud ag ef gyda’i gilydd a llai mewn rhyngweithio rhwng dyn ac anifeiliaid. Fy null gweithio a ffafrir yw mynd allan hyn y byd i arsylwi anifeiliaid ac yna dod â’r ddelweddaeth honno’n ôl i’r stiwdio i wneud darluniadau mwy gorffenedig.

Dechreuais y prosiect hwn i annog pobl i feddwl am y ffaith bod anifeiliaid yn byw hyn ein dinasoedd ac yn ymgymryd ag ymddygiadau cymhleth a diddorol yn syth o’n blaenau ni. Mae pobl yn gwylio llawer o raglenni dogfen ar natur, neu’n edrych ar ffotograffau ar y we, y syniad y tu ôl i’r gwaith hwn yw annog pobl i feddwl am y ffaith bod yr anifeiliaid y maent yn chwilio amdanynt yn byw eu bywyd yn syth drws nesaf i ni. Mae natur yma, mae angen i chi arafu digon i’w gweld hi.
